E file did not update
on October 16, 2013
Posted by: Georgeque
E filing could not be done without posting updates which would not install on the computer so I filed by mail and lost my free E'mail filing.
What's great about it: Worked good except for loading up dates to TT when I went to file with E filing. Tried several times to install updates
What's not so great: Updates did not work properly,Could not install update to TT
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Oh really???

You must be kidding me!!! I have used Turbo Tax FAITHFULLY for many years and have trusted in its features to review my return, highlight errors, etc. prior to filing. It did just that...but then both the Fed and State returns got REJECTED due to simple errors that should have been caught by Turbo Tax!!! So then I went back into Turbo Tax after getting notified of the errors and supposedly "fixed" the errors, then resubmitted and both returns got rejected AGAIN!!! Last resort was to go through the entire return MANUALLY and find the errors myself. What a joke!
Doesn't anybody test this stuff and get the updates posted??? I did update latest online prior to filing. Give me a break...please do more due diligence in testing your products before releasing to the market.
What's great about it: Got my taxes filed...or so I thought!
What's not so great: No errors during TURBO TAX review; rejected by Fed & State due to ERRORS!!!

In several cases where I double-clicked on a figure on a form which came from a subordinate form, it would not take me to the subordinate form, but just presented some general verbage about what it was all about - not very helpful. This seems to be a change from prior-years' products.
What's not so great: Drill down doesn't always work

Great product makes the most complicated tax system in the world, pretty easy. Multiple ways to enter data with very fast updates to interactive results. Complicated returns with dozens of forms integrate seamlessly.
What's great about it: easy to enter forms, multiple ways to enter data
What's not so great: missing very few forms (ie: 1045)
Pros: I bought or sold investments

quality product

This is easily the best tax product out there and I've tried them all. Only downside is the cost. Once you pay for the initial program they charge you exhorbitant fees to get direct deposit. Who doesn't want their money fast but this should be disclosed when you purchase, not once you've burned the midnight oil to get your return fiiled by the deadline - like many procrastinators such as myself. It always takes longer than you expect to gather your receipts.
Upside is: It is worth it because of the speed and accuracy and the notifications confirm your return has been accepted by the IRS.
What's great about it: questions asked were pertinent
What's not so great: hard to figure out how to edit wrong entries - trial and error worked

Could not handle my Federal filing situation
on October 17, 2013

I have used Turbo Tax since year 0 (yeah, I was customer no. 6) and have been very pleased with your product development over the last three decades. But, this year I was stymied by the inability to file my Federal return electronically a couple of days before the end of the extended filing deadline of 15 October. The problem was that last year I missed the filing deadline and had to submit a paper copy. This year, the IRS would not accept my PIN or AGI from last year when I tried to file electronically. Turbo Tax instructed me to use last year's AGI amount and obtained the value from last year's Turbo Tax file for me (which I verified as being correct). Turbo Tax advised that I should use last year's AGI value or an AGI value of zero if I did not file a return last year. However, Turbo Tax should have instructed me to use an AGI value of zero if I did not file a return last year OR if I filed a paper copy! It took a call to the IRS to get this straightened out.
Nevertheless, I am still very close to being your No. 1 Fan, and I plan on outliving the 5 guys from San Diego who are ahead of me so I can eventually claim that title!!
What's great about it: Very thorough
What's not so great: Forms View needs to show form numbers in addition to form titles.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

My only 2 objections
on October 19, 2013
Posted by: JulesandLids
All the features are pretty self-evident and easy to use. My only 2 objections are: first, that lists transferred from year to year (e.g. dividends, charitable contributions, etc.) cannot be alphabetized, so that each year, even if entered in alphabetical order, they are saved and transferred in more & more random order, so that it becomes almost impossible to find anything in a long list and check it.
Secondly, it seems to be impossible to do the estimated tax & print the required forms without first printing Form 1040. If you file an extension, obviously you haven't finished Form 1040.
What's great about it: detailed, easy to use
What's not so great: what if filing an extension? and still no alphabetization!
Pros: I bought or sold investments
