TurboTax Is a Great Program!

TurboTax is fairly easy to use and provides additional information that helped me input accurate responses in my tax return.
What's great about it: I really like the extra help the tool provides.

One issue

I've used TurboTax for many years and have enjoyed the continuous improvements put into it (I use the Deluxe version). The 2012 version gave me fits with one issue: my wife and I both have offices in our home (separate rooms), which this year seemed to give the software fits. It wouldn't allow e-filing of the return, despite lengthy effort to adjust the entries to make it happy.
Also, we continue to have issues with the fact that my wife (she's an actor) frequently gets paid by a W-2, although she's not an actual employee of the payer, which TurboTax has for years managed very poorly, insisting on double-counting the pay (once as if she were an employee, and again via Schedule C). This year I thought I had found a way of getting it to handle this issue via linking the W-2 to the Schedule C, but it just spawned a growing number of errors as I tried to make it work. (Maybe I need more help than I've found.)
Nonetheless, I continue to love the software - it's positive aspects far outweigh the negatives.
What's great about it: TurboTax for 2012 has a numbers of new features that, in general, make it "smarter" and easier to use than ever before.
What's not so great: Had one real issue - colored my entire experience

It was fine this time too

Although I was filing following an extension, there was no demonstration that the software was aware of the fact that an extension was filed for. Also as mentione above, the state tax return was not programmed well enough to use information from last year or from the Federal return or to be able from my address to deduce the county where I reside in.
I would like to see these and similar improvements in the future.

What's great about it: Simple walk through and then edit if needed
What's not so great: State Tax retuen did not seem to be able to access and process information from last year's return

The best Accountant for My 2012 Tax

I use and recommend TurboTax year after year. Knowing that all steps have been taken to correctly file tax returns is what TurboTax truly means to me. See you again in a few months when I prepare 2013 .... you make filing taxes fun!
What's great about it: Fun to complete, refund kept growing with each step!

TurboTax Deluxe for self employed and farm

I've been using TurboTax for decades, and it is a robust program that's easy to follow. Because it tracks your typical income, depreciation, deductions, donations, etc., each year, a lot of time is saved entering data.
This year, trying to run my own consulting business and make the farm pay, an issue arose on how to handle a vehicle used in both undertakings that was totaled in an accident. I'm still not sure I got it right. Next year I will probably upgrade from Deluxe to the next level, as I sold stock this year and expanded my consulting and farm businesses.
One other thing I would change about the program is to allow pasting from a spreadsheet or text document into the pop-up details boxes.
What's great about it: Easy to follow guidance from one topic to the next, tracks information from previous years
What's not so great: Difficult issue to enter loss of vehicle due to accident, when it was used for both business and farm
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Efiling MO Return on Oct 15th

Very unhappy having to file by mail and after October 15th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What's not so great: Had to manually file my MO return on the 16th because a message came up saying TurboTax closed efiling on October 15

I had a terrible time with my very simple schedule D. Turbo tax kept giving me a gain instead of a loss which gave me a bigger refund with the gain (?). I had to manually adjust my return to make it accurate. My loss was a carryover from 2011. I could not and still have not been able to access my 2011 return. I have it on my computer but it would not open.
Every suggestion for opening 2011 from Turbo was directed to 2012 return. The password I used was invalid...I wrote the password down but it doesn't work.
