Bad experience!

Extremely poorly written Help instructions were available to eliminate the Schedule C for 2012 (we no longer ran the business which we filed Sched. C for in past). They looked fine at first, and fairly simple. But the instructions did not match up with the referenced process well at all. Descriptions of what the "next" pages would say were only vaguely close on one step. The other steps did not match at all. Then it got worse. In seeking to simply follow the instructuctions, I was sent into a useless, endless, repeated loop of questions about the vehicle we used when business was operating ... which it no longer is. After the 3rd time through the exact same questions, it was obvious that following them was a mistake. The system had several other flaws ... not time to detail all. But one glaring one is that when I sought to use your Contact Us pages, it did absolutely nothing when I clicked either the "Chat" or "Call" buttons for the free service. Extremely disappointing year with your product.
What's great about it: Initially TurboTax worked fine, as it had for the 3 prior years.
What's not so great: At end, disastrous. Tried to follow your on-line Help instructions to eliminate a Schedule C from filing for 2012.

I used to use turbotax but last year, because my taxes were more complex, I used a CPA which was expensive and a bit of a disaster. I came back to turbotax this year and think it is improved over last time and still easy to use
What's great about it: easy to navigate and thorough, as far as I can tell.

I am confident that my return and the financial information was reported within full compliance of all applicable Federal regulations. I am a CPA and an Attorney, so my opinion SHOULD MATTER!
What's great about it: You were very thorough and complete.
What's not so great: Not as user friendly as you could be...but it is all good!

Great Tax Software

I have been using Turbo Tax for more than 10 years and it just gets better every year. Even though I have a 30 year old MBA and law degree specializing in taxation, Turbo Tax means that you don't need that education, and you don't have to worry about constantly retraining yourself each year.
What's great about it: Easier every year, particularly stock transactions
What's not so great: none
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Turbotax did an awesome job as usual. It is a program I would recommend to anyone, from beginner to expert.
What's great about it: I like the guided program. The simplicity of the program was awesome.
What's not so great: I didn't find anything I didn't like.

Worthless when it comes to AMT calc------still, years later
What's great about it: im used to it
What's not so great: quicken import features very limited, not very useful. Why cant i import deductions other than charity
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

K-1's are tedious

BEST IMPROVEMENT WOULD BE TO ENABLE ALL MY K-1's DATA TO BE DIRECTLY IMPORTED INTO TURBO TAX. ENTRY OF ALL THE DATA IS THE MOST TEDIOUS OF THE WHOLE RETURN. I STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND THE ERRORS WHICH RESULTED BETWEEN THE K-1 AND FORM 1116 FOR SEVERAL PARTNERSHIPS. IF THE PROGRAM IS CREATING A LINK ON ANOTHER NEW DOCUMENT WHY ARE THERE ERRORS. CAN'T THE PROGRAM PROMPT FOR A CORRECTING ENTRY AT THE SAME TIME WHILE YOU'RE THERE. THERE WERE OTHER ENTRIES WHICH WERE ASKING FOR AN EXPLANATION COMMENT FOR THE ENTRY AND I HAD NO IDEA WHAT IT WAS LOOKING FOR. IT'S HARD WHEN YOU HAVE TO GO BACK. HOPE THE IRS DOESN'T QUESTION MY RETURN FOR THIS. I HAD TO GIVE UP AND FILE ANYWAY.
WOULD LIKE THE SUPPORTING DETAILS BOX TO OPEN AUTOMATICALLY WHEN YOU COME BACK TO AN ENTRY WHICH HAS ONE. OTHERWISE YOU DON'T KNOW THERE IS ONE, AND YOU MIGHT START TO OVERWRITE EXISTING DATA IN THE BOX IF YOU JUST START TYPING ON THE ENTRY LINE; ESPECIALLY WHERE THERE WAS A SUPPORTING DETAIL FOR THE ENTRY ON THE PRIOR YEAR RETURN, LIKE I EXPERIENCED.
WOULD LIKE A HOT KEY FOR THE CALCULATOR POPUP. I THOUGHT THERE WAS ONE IN PRIOR YEARS (LIKE "CTRL-C")
IN THE REVIEW PROCESS, WOULD LIKE TO BRING UP ANY ENTRIES CARRIED FORWARD ON A FORM FROM PRIOR YEAR WHICH HAS NOT BEEN VISITED IN THE CURRENT YEAR. I HAD FORM 5329 CARRIED FORWARD FROM 2011 WHICH I DIDN'T CATCH UNTIL PRINTING. THERE WERE CHANGES I NEEDED TO MAKE FOR THE CURRENT YEAR.
What's great about it: EASY, LOGICAL GUIDED ENTRY OF DATA, AND CREATION OF ADDITIONAL FORMS WHERE REQUIRED
What's not so great: ENTRY OF K-1 DATA IS TEDIOUS AND RESULTS IN DIFFICULT TO RESOLVE ERRORS ON RETURN

Turbo Tax is great and we've always been very happy with the easy, question and answer format. My only criticism is that the inner workings of Turbo Tax look so different from the actual return that it is difficult to find the corresponding parts if a problem does arrive. It would be a great help if each stage along the Turbo Tax route included the actual form and line number that corresponds to the question at hand.
