Well Done

Takes longer than it should for an experienced preparer but I understand why as the program has good built in safeguards to keep novices from making mistakes.
I'm a retired CPA with 25 years of tax experience. I use to own my own CPA firm until I became ill and am now disabled. I prefer using your software at home for my personal return.
What's great about it: Gets everything covered
What's not so great: Too cumbersome for an experienced tax preparer

In some areas if you go back to check something you have to start that area over and enter all of the info again. It insisted on employer info on the W-2 info even though I didn't receive a W-2
What's not so great: Instructions are frequently too vague. Like some people should mail returns even if they efile. No reason given.

This Was Easy!

Love the step-by-step process, and that Turbo Tax covers everything including topics I never would have thought of. I also love, love, LOVE the chat with an expert option.
What's great about it: Easy-to-use interface, simple to understand, and user friendly
What's not so great: Some topics not in (or hard to find in) the knowledge database
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

IRS Audit Trap

Due to the nature of my business, I report the business portion of electricity for my office as a direct expense. This happens in the home office interview. Later in the interview process, there is an additional place to enter the business-related direct expenses again. Because of this, the IRS auditor found that I had double-reported my electricity earlier this year and it was a bit embarrassing, as well as costing me add'l tax and a penalty. There should be a warning to not double-report direct expenses in this way.

Not so good anymore.

When trying to edit out some info TurboTax just refused.
No logic to it.
Where to enter a" owner financed property sale "with mortgage to new primary home owners....confusing to say the least.

I finally,after 3 hours, found a way to edit by going to forms and over-riding entries,I could fix/edit out the unwanted entries.

All in all,after 15 years of using Turbo Tax Deluxe,this year was a terrible experience.
What's great about it: I thought it was reliable and easy to use.
What's not so great: Gets "stuck".Not always clear instructions.
