Excellent, As Always

I started using TurboTax way back when DOS was the hot operating system on PCs. With a few years off, I have been using it for quite some time.
TurboTax only gets better and more capable.
TTax walks you through all aspects of filing your Federal and State taxes and, for us - we have to file two separate states - it only makes life easier.
I don't think I could ever go back to doing my own taxes and - due to having been let down two separate years - I will never use those others again.
What's great about it: Easy, informative, solid, verifies math
What's not so great: Charges for e-filing New Jersey taxes

Importation Works!

Of all the years I've used TurboTax, this was the best. I did not expect to meet the extension deadline, mostly because of about a thousand capital gains transactions I thought I would have to manually enter individually. I had never imported data before. When it worked, it saved me at least a week of tedious manual data entry. I was also pleased to see that, unknown to me until I stumbled across it, TurboTax had complete Form 8801 (AMT - related) in the background. I had struggled with it for hours - it is an impossible form to comprehend. When I found TurboTax's completed form, it demonstrated that I had completely botched my effort to complete it. Some kind of alert that 8801 was being completed when the AMT work was being done would be helpful. Also, the instructions for first-time 1099-B sales data importation should be clarified. It is not apparent that, after you get a user ID and password from your broker, you still need to click on <click here> a second time and change your password a second time before the importing works. But when it finally did, it was wonderful!
What's great about it: Importing saved me a week, and late filing
What's not so great: Instructions for first time importing not clear

Thank you Digital CPA

Love the question and answer format! Would love to see better directions and ease of transferring data from Ipad to desktop Mac. I started the whole process with general information on my ipad while watching a soccer game and then got into the nitty gritty on my computer at home. The transfer wasn't explained, but I figured out how to do it by downloading the "cloud based file" onto my computer and then opening it up locally. Not sure how to go back though? I could see how it would be handy to be able to switch devices seamlessly. Incredible improvements since I explored Turbo Tax back in the late 90's. Used a CPA for over 10 years. Now, I don't see a reason to go back.
What's great about it: Simplifies Filing tremendously
What's not so great: Documentation for Cloud based info on Ipad to Desktop Mac is not readily available

Could not find where certain forms were for the state. Could not file until error was changed. Instructions were poor.
What's great about it: most of instructions are understandable
What's not so great: couldn't figure out how to change something- not fully understandable

Takes the grunt work out of doing taxes.

I first started using TurboTax in 2003 to process my 2002 taxes. I liked it so much, I have used it every year since. My taxes are complicated because I have seven rental properties to process. I always buy the TurboTax Deluxe version, and it nicely printed out a Schedule E for all the rental properties. I use Quicken Essentials for MAC to keep track of all money spent on each property. I hate doing taxes; however Quicken and TurboTax make the process as easy as possible.
What's great about it: Leads me through a complicated process.
What's not so great: NONE

Finally got a return through the e-filing process

Basically an excellent program with many admirable features, Turbotax needs to work on theses issues:
1. The time to announce that I need to work on certain forms is before the announced completion of the return. Interrupting the e-filing sequence to do this is frustrating.
2. Turbotax does not have forms for an 1120S business for the Mac. Last year, I had to install Windows on my Mac to do this other return, and still had to resort to the IRS site. This year, I exclusively used the IRS site for this purpose. Apple is not a fringe operating system, folks. You need to provide the same functionality to Mac users as Windows users.
What's great about it: Useful computations across multiple forms
What's not so great: Some maddening glitches
