As Usual, No Surprises

Having used Mac-In Tax to Turbo Tax, I have seen a continuing movement to upgrade and simplify the arduous task of compiling and completing the annual drudgery of filing the Federal Income Tax forms. Intuit has been a calm ship in a stormy, constantly changing set of federal rules, new forms, economic and political crises, ad nauseum. I know I can trust the product to do what it is supposed to do. No surprises is a good thing.
What's great about it: Trustworthy, Easy to use
What's not so great: Sometimes hard to get right way to a specific form
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Overall, seems a lot easier to use
What's great about it: Getting more thorough
What's not so great: In printing copies, do not need to reprint instructions and other items. Could use individual choices of what to print

Excellent User Friendly Program

I would like to e-file but have attachments from my brokerage account that I would like to send with the return. I believe there is a way to e-file and then mail attachments separately and would like instructions on how to do that.
NOTE: I do not download the brokerage information because it is frequently incomplete or incorrect and an amendment comes later. It is easier to write "see attached" on the tax return and send the attachments.
What's great about it: I am a retired CPA who no longer has access to the program the CPA firm uses. Turbo Tax is an even better alternative!

TurboTax came through once again

TurboTax is smoother and more streamlined, yet very comprehensive, every year. I found the filing of extensions a little indefinite. There was not enough clear feedback that extensions were successfully filed, especially with respect to the extension filed for the state return. Otherwise, program was fantastic!
What's great about it: More and more is streamlined every year
What's not so great: Needed a little more clarity and feedback for extensions especially for state extensions

One tough spot ...

Got hung up in one spot ... Traded in a car that had some business use. We had always taken a business mileage deduction, rather than any depreciation on the vehicle. In spite of that, the system kept forcing me to complete a depreciated value for the trade-in. Felt like I was in an endless loop until I decided (hopefully, correctly) that since I hadn't taken any depreciation, the "depreciated value" was the same as the original value.
What's great about it: Thorough, clear, easy to follow
What's not so great: Sometimes could use a little more reference material and/or explanation of items.

just in time

did taxes by hand last year and decided it was just too confusing. turbotax wanted too much info. i did lots of my summary work on my spreadsheet after the wife went thru all the credit cards and bills.
What's great about it: got the job done
What's not so great: prefered form view but put to other view often
