I am not computer knowledgable but this was my thrid time to use Turbo Tax and I have to say that if I can do it all by myself, anybody can. They take you through every step of the way and then they even double check things for you.
What's great about it: Nice to do it all @ home.

Killed my eyes

Everything went smooth except I had to wear magnifying glasses to read the screen and take them off to look at my tax documents. I have almost perfect vision but it really took a lot of time and double checking to get this completed.
What's not so great: was very hard to complete - print was so small on the screen I had to get magnifying glasses to read. Really slowed dow

Sanity and Savings

It is nice to deal with things written in English rather than government-accounting jargon with inscrutable instructions hidden somewhere in pamphlets that are not provided. I always had the feeling that taxes were like a Monopoly game where no one wants you to know the rules.
It was a pleasure to e-file even if I had to pay extra for the state. It saved the time of paper copies, check writing, stapling the right scraps of paper in the right locations, finding a large enough envelope, calculating the right postage, and schlepping to the Post Office consuming both time and gas. E-filing also confirms what I always suspected, that the government already has all the W-2 information.
Of course, it was also nice to save over $500 by not having a tax accountant do the taxes.
Suggestion: Turbo Tax ought to offer an option to save on-line an encrypted portion of the tax return with just the information needed for the next year. I say this only because I've had hard drives die with prior years' returns on them.
What's great about it: Thorough review of all that's needed. No IRS gobbledy-gook.
What's not so great: Javascript web site error when trying to recover my password

disappointment
on April 30, 2013

I thought I efiled both fed and state returns, only to discover when I checked back in three weeks that some data was missing in my state form (HC). This apparently caused the efiles not to occur! Now I'm 15 days late with whatever late fees to be incurred. I printed my forms out and thought I was done. My disappointment is that the Turbo Tax was not clear that they were not efiled!
What's not so great: missing data from state from (HC)

I have been using this program for 18 years and will not use anything else. It is easy for me to use and find all my deductions. Even if I miss something the error checker lets me know what it is and how to fix it. I will continue to buy and use this program
What's great about it: Step by step instuctions
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Printing Impossibility
on April 30, 2013

I have always liked TT since late 1990's but this year's being looped into PDF 13 for printing, as mentioned above, made the tax pymt late; sent through a program on IRS website. Also more difficult to communicate with a live person!! Think I'll switch to another tax prep program next year.
What's great about it: As always, easy to follow thru Interview; helpful CPA via phone
What's not so great: Cannot print bec PDF-13 was messed up & tax pymt late bec I couldn't print 1040-V!

Prior to transmitting where you are asked for direct deposit accounts was an issue for me. There is room for you to add 3 accounts to split your refund. I chose to use 2 of the options but the system continued to show the 3rd empty option as an error. The only way I could get past an error was to include information for a 3rd account with a zero amount on 3 a,b and c.
What's great about it: questions are easy to navigate. Product gets easier to work each year.
What's not so great: Entering account information for direct deposit
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
