Smooth Ride

Excellent choice for doing my taxes; record keeping for taxes is improved. I wish there was a category of Turbo Tax that was between the deluxe and the basic. I can't use the State tax part because of no income tax in our State; but I can use deductions part.
What's great about it: Transfer of data from the history was super; and no surprises. I like the comparison from the previous years return.
What's not so great: The State return part is a waste.

Had trouble filing due to AD military status

Although I am an Active Duty military member, a MD non-resident, and my Home of Record is CA, I ended up having to pay over $300 in taxes to MD, something I've never had to do since I joined the military. I know that I should not have had to pay MD taxes since I'm a non-resident, but I could not figure out what was wrong in my documents that caused this to happen. I now have to file an amendment in order to get back the MD taxes I paid. I have no idea how to go about doing that, or how to show the mistake to the IRS. I'm extremely disappointed in this outcome. A family member urged me to use Turbo Tax for the first time this year. I got double the amount I usually get in my refund, but I ended up paying taxes I never had to pay when I didn't use Turbo Tax. It is very frustrating. I'm not sure I want to use Turbo Tax next year.
What's great about it: Fast, private, eFiling, very good refund.
What's not so great: No real person to get answers from, difficult to file appropriate state taxes (AD military)

TurboTax works well for changes of residency

EasyStep doesn't catch all special circumstances, but Forms View generally gives you access to every entry on the actual tax forms.
Recommendation: Allow filing of extensions to multiple states and allow payment of arbitrary amounts with the extensions.

What's great about it: Very helpful in splitting income & taxes between two states of residence..
What's not so great: One needs to know how to use Forms view to fill in items unreachable in EasyStep view

As usual, another great rendition of TurboTax. I like its easiness in guiding you through the process. Now,if it would only offer to pay any back taxes owed from "data entry error" on our part. Hey, it dosent hurt to want, does it?
What's great about it: fairly easy to follow, breaks down the catagories nicely, lets you know if you're messsing-up
What's not so great: need easier way to stop/skip state forms if not needed,

Over 15 year user of TurboTax (and MacInTax previously); never an issue, even with long form and Schedule A, and works as promised and expected.
What's great about it: Provides detailed step-by-step instructions and path for filing

I have been using Turbo Tax for over 17 years and have found that over the years it has continued to improve making each year's retun faster and more concise.
What's great about it: the prompts were good-able to quickly go through topics
What's not so great: was unable to quickly locate a specific location to claim a new type of interest

No need to visit a "live" tax specialist. If its good enough for the SecTreas, its good enough for the rest of us.
What's great about it: Program is quick, easy, and finds deductions.
What's not so great: None
