I had problems with filing when I needed to e-file federal return and mail state return. It was it very difficult to just printout state return and I was afraid I might file the federal return twice. I did mail state return timely. After waiting for three day for confirmation from IRS, I learned that I had not filed my federal return and only today, the 19th of April, did my federal return get filed. Ouch!
What's great about it: easy to use until filing
What's not so great: filing was confusing

This was my first with TurboTax and I will NEVER look for a substitute. This is a fantstic software program and so easy to use. I did use another program last two years and it worked but TurboTax is the BEST

We've used the product for over a decade. It works for us.
The Flow, especially for Schedule E can be combersome at times especially when we revisit parts of it 4-5 time during preparation and review.
In general, good product for a person who has self-prepared before. And seems to work ok for some people who self prepare taxes for the 1st time.
What's great about it: A complete Checklist to follow to self-prepare the return
What's not so great: Some entires not remember over time, Had to Re-Enter

What's great about it: Easy to Use
What's not so great: May need to know some tax rules to identify when TurboTax isn't asking something it should

Don't try playing what ifs with TurboTax

TTax has had the same clunky interface for years. To date, it still requires the use of the mouse to scroll up and down in a page. The PageUp and PageDown keys on the keyboard do not work. And the pages are just slightly too high such that the Continue, Yes/No, or whatever buttons are not visible and require scrolling (with the mouse) to reach them. This is extremely aggravating.
I played what if scenarios. I removed dependants from the Federal section. But TTax did not remove the tuition payment information for the dependants from the NYS section, resulting in a NYS tax refund way higher than it should have been. If I hadn't caught it in the list of forms, I would have ended up with vastly incorrect calculations. Inexcusable.
When the final reviews find errors, you are thrown into a form, with no instructions whatsoever as to what is wrong and what to do about it. Extremely disorienting. Why? Because that information is higher up on the page, which has to be scrolled up to be discovered. Again another UI issue that Intuit has not deemed necessary to fix after so many years.
I had done the Federal and State reviews. Before e-filing, I wanted to save my returns in PDF. I first saved the "for your record" part. No problem. Then I wanted to save the "To be filed" part. It refused, claiming I had errors in my return. I went back to the review and it found errors, which was missing information that I know I had put in, and besides it had just told me there was no error.
This happened 4 times (for my return and my 3 children's returns). So I can accept making a mistake once, but not 4 times. And the missing information was different for each return. As I said, TTax had found no errors during the reviews, yet found them when saving to PDF. Go figure.
I am losing confidence in Intuit's ability to write usable tax software.
What's great about it: It guides you ok, but only for simple situations
What's not so great: TurboTax left NYS data for a dependant, even though I had removed the dependant in the Federal section.

Need to improve the ability to review one form rather than the entire section.
What's great about it: Detail instructions
What's not so great: Very hard to go back and edit without having to repeat the steps
