Good But - Clean up the End Game
on April 16, 2013

The selection to make when you cash-rent farm land MUST be made more clear. Logic tells you it is "farm rental income" from the menu. BUT that is for when you crop share, not cash rent. And once you make the wrong selection, it is hard to "purge" it from the return completely. Instead, one needs to enter farm cash rentals on Schedule E. That's been confusing for years and it should not be hard to make the choice clear. The great majority of farm rentals are cash rents these days.
Also, when the returns are done, it would be Really Nice to have some SIMPLE print out options. And to be able to return easily to the print option screens/menus. Why do we have to get the whole package when we print? The options and selections are actually very poorly done as far as personal choice and convenience goes. Once everything has been checked and analyzed, why can't another print - save menu, WITH OPTIONS, be readily available from that point on? That would make Turbo "Terrific!"
What's great about it: Selectable comprehensive or menu options. Ease of import. End review.
What's not so great: Options when you CASH-RENT farmland is confusing. Navigation/print options near the endpoint are deficient.

TTax Review

The ease of use and 'help' makes it a breeze to do one's taxes, even for a neophyte. The interface is uncluttered and intuitive. Several aides (Its Deductable, links to help files and expanded descriptions of terminology, the IRS, etc) make for convenient research in the midst of preparing a return.
One continuing complaint is the inability to attach additional detail at will. I make charitable contributions that 'exceed the norm' and was audited the one and only time I filed electronically simply because Turbo Tax didn't permit me to attach detailed evidence of my giving. Since then, I have always filed by mail - I never want to go through the aggravation of another audit!
What's great about it: multiple 'on ramps' permit selective info injection points
What's not so great: inability to attach additional information

The software is easy to use and saves time, however there was some confusion on Federal & State education credits, maybe it was just me but I got a little confused on how to answer some of the questions without more explanation.
What's great about it: makes filing taxes easy

The what -if's section for comparing married filing joint (MFJ) vs. married filing separately (MFS) is a great analysis tool. Although fine tuning is still needed it prompted me to research more.
I then ran the two scenario's and compared the taxes due. My tax liability was reduced by $1,000 by using the MFS. Just having the ability to compare side by side is fantastic. Thanks Turbo Tax
What's great about it: Ease of entering and understanding information
What's not so great: The what-if's for comparing Married file joint or separately needs a bit of fine tuning
Pros: I bought or sold investments
