uncertain return
on April 16, 2013
Posted by: greeneyes63
I was very impressed with the importing of my return, but not on the ability to get from form to form. I entered a search for a item on my federal tax form and it took me to the internet. The snapshot descriptions were not well explained, a little vague. For example: on an auto lease that is and electric hybrid, it wasn't until a couple screens later that it indicated that it only applied to the "leassor" and not "the leassee". Therefore, I had to back track and correct my mistake.
What's great about it: imported my last year's return easily
What's not so great: difficultly following and hard to find things to edit.

Great way to do taxes
on April 16, 2013

I have used TurboTax faithfully for over a decade now, since learning that our friend who worked for the IRS who did our taxes for us as a favor, used TurboTax to do it! I thought, "I can do that..." and I have never since seen a need to have an Accountant to do our taxes.
I feel like I know more about the tax code and how to plan for taxes than most people, after reading the bulletins in TurboTax over the years. It is a great product!
My only negative was that 20 minutes before midnight when I was getting ready to hit send, my computer shut itself down, and restarting it took forever. It took longer than I would have liked to get back to the place where I was--critical filing info had to be re-entered. This would be a good thing to look into improving..
Then, once it was re-entered and finally ready to re-send, it was already 11:55, it said the server was down. I'm sure it was getting hit pretty hard, but it was frustrating to have it not go through until 12:01 and print 4/16 12:01 am on my return. :-(
Hoping there will be grace for that one minute, but even if there's not, I know that Intuit stands behind their product
What's great about it: Simple to use; walks you through everything step by step
What's not so great: Last minute server outage
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Turbo tax did a good job of getting my deductions and caught an error I had missed that would have made a $1800 difference, with me owing instead of getting money back). My only complaint is I wish it had told me earlier than right as I was all set to file.

hated requirement to type charity addresses/phone
on April 16, 2013

TTax would not let me e-file until I put something in each address/phone blank for charities--it's a worksheet--why would you require that???
In Colo. state form a box would not "uncheck". spent quite a bit of time trying to fix it. finally "continued" and the program said I wasn't qualified for elder heat rebate program. but that was very disconserting.
Why aren't there any answers to the questions on the right column?? I had same questions but there were no answers. Is there a charge for that?
I couldn't figure out how to look at the actual IRS form after completing it, i.e. schedule d etc.
Thank you for not charging a 2nd fee when I had to resubmit a corrected state efiling. I would have like to see the forms before sending, but again could not figure out how to do that without printing it.
What's great about it: didn't charge a 2nd fee when had to re-file state
What's not so great: see "title"

Worst One Ever!!
on April 16, 2013

Wouldn't update forms when form was open and or cd was still in drive even though the option was shown as available (not grayed out)
Added date not entered in worksheets. Added a check on the form 8936 in block 3b which wasn't even a choice on the worksheet, then kept refusing to efile until the error was fixed. had to open the form to find out what it was talking about. It checked a box showing the car was older then 2010 which caused it to reject the purchase date and the vehicle year (2012)
Added an unknown W2 even though I cancelled the date. Kept asking for an employer name and location for a blank form.
What's great about it: Not much
What's not so great: Poor updating of forms and poor services.
