Simply Helpful

Turbo Tax has been most helpful for years. It's why I continue to use it, and have used it for over a decade now. It's step by step service is great.
Could use a little more help as an Alaska Native. On the 1099-MISC I get from Cook Inlet Reigion Inc, The resource revenue payment derives from resource sharing among the 12 regional corporations as required by the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act. This is not the same as the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend Distribution which is for residence since I live in the lower 48, so it came trying to ask me inadequate questions about small business. As a shareholder I am treated as a "small business" but in reality am part of a greater business, but must report this way due to Government regulations. So Government likes to classify CIRI and other Native Corporations when it comes to bides as small business and in taxes as small business when it comes to shareholders, but we are not you average "small business" - so perhaps in time better electronic retreival forms will be made for the 1099-DIV (actual dividend earnings from just CIRIC) and 1099-MISC I must report each year for CIRI.
I love how you have improved the product year after year, and for that I am very grateful.
What's great about it: Turbo Tax does a good job of guiding me through W-2
What's not so great: On forms such as 1099-MISC, could use a bit more help being an Alaska Native having to report resource sharing.

I love the way turbo tax guides one through all the various steps of filing both federal and state returns. The programs explains what each step consists of and has multiple options to get help if needed. I highly recommend this product to people that don't require a CPA to do very complex tax returns.
What's great about it: this program walks one through every aspect of the tax return, chronologically and simple
What's not so great: none

For the experanced user it is a pain to have to answer the same questions more then once. i.e. ask if you have dependents answer no, then it will ask again and also if you have child care expense for dependants.
What's great about it: detailed, easy for new users
What's not so great: ask same question after telling it no.

Procrastinator's Best Friend

I've been a TurboTax user since 1995 and the software improves each year. I started using Quicken about three years ago, which helps organize deductible expenses throughout the year though I hesitate to directly import from Quicken to TurboTax because I like to know where info is going into my tax return. The help features in TurboTax and access to IRS publications is excellent.
People who complain about the complicated US tax code either: a) have way too much money; or b) aren't using TurboTax!
What's great about it: Side by side comparison to previous year entries
What's not so great: Distinguishing between worksheets and required forms
Pros: I bought or sold investments

It's easy!

TurboTax is easy! There's detailed instructions for everything. All you need to do is find your records.
Tried the HR Block version one year. What a mistake. HR Block version was hard to read and the forms were more difficult to use.
TurboTax is easy to read and easy to use! The hardest past for me is finding where I put my records.
What's great about it: Detailed instructions for every step
What's not so great: Can't think of any

It gets the job done
on April 16, 2013

If you don't know anything about taxes, this may be the program for you. It does its best to ask about everything. If you are an experienced tax preparer, it will drive you a little nuts, requiring irrelevant, unnecessary information. I think it tries a little too hard to cover Intuit's backside. If I had more than a handful of returns to prepare, I would not choose Turbotax. If you are preparing your own and have questions, do use Turbotax. It does as good a job as software can do on a tax return.
What's great about it: Accurate, thorough
What's not so great: Asks for too much unnecessary info

Unbelievable experience! Most difficult tax year of my life (and I've been paying taxes for a few decades) and it was smooth as silk!
What's great about it: walking me through every step effortlessly
What's not so great: some of the explanations didn't give enough detail
