Easy Work for a Complicated Filing
on April 15, 2013

TurboTax is great. It has kept my history for years, and keeps me from having to thumb through files of paperwork. No matter how complicated I think it may be, the program guides me through the forms step by step.
What's great about it: Asks the right questions.
What's not so great: None

Still Better than Nothing
on April 15, 2013

If you already have gathered everything you need to go to an accountant, you might as well save the money and put the same information into TurboTax. Its greatest advantage comes in subsequent years when it remembers everything about you from your previous year's return and knows exactly what questions to ask. Make sure you save often. I lost four hours because I thought i had saved.
What's great about it: It handles most things smoothly easily.
What's not so great: It does not save automatically the way it used to, and its lists of entries are not in alphabetical order.

It is easy to import your previous year and base your current year on that. If you have used if for years, it keeps track of your retirement accounts. Easy Flow and guidance.

Not Up-to-date
on April 15, 2013

First of all, my HVAC dealer advised me the unit that I had purchased in 2012 is eligible for Energy Saving Credit. NO WHERE in the process did it allow me to take advantage of the $300 credit.
It's hard to tell where you are on any giving form or which form your working on and how it relates to the 1040.
Filing process was easy.
What's great about it: Filing is easy.
What's not so great: Getting to filing is confusing. Software Hand-Holding doesn't match forms
