Turbotax takes the confusion out of a process designed to inflict pain. This app helps users from the novice to the savvy navigate the labyrinth of the US tax code efficiently and quickly while always maintaining the goal of maximizing one's refund.
What's great about it: Thorough yet simple

5th year of Turbo Tax

I continue to appreciate how easy Turbo Tax is to use. This is the 5th year in a row that I have used it, at the recommendation of a good friend who is a manager of Taxation at PWC, and uses it for her own finances. Only two small gripes: 1) It is kind of scary when it posts how much you owe before the deductions are processed, and 2) not that I can think of a way to rid myself of the fear, but I will never know if there is some small deductions that only a tax professional would have caught. Great job overall.
What's great about it: Ease of Use, Speed, Gets all the deductions
What's not so great: Shows the amount you owe or don't owe a little early

Excellent Step by Step Instructions

Ability to switch between step by step instructions and review on my own was very useful for federal return, state return did not have that function, which made it more cumbersome to navigate.
What's great about it: Federal tax product
What's not so great: State tax product

The explanations are clear and to the point. It seems to take a long time to complete the return
What's great about it: You can do it on your own at an economical cost
What's not so great: It takes a long time to find the information and input it in the correct area

When you deal with a tax pro you feel like they are steering you in the right direction. They know what is reasonable and not in the grey areas. But they charge a premium for that insite. Turbo Tax does not help you navigate the grey areas.
What's great about it: Turbo goes through the process step by step and asks most of the right questions. It is fast and striaght forward.
What's not so great: I never feel totally confident that I did it all right. There are always several areas that I feel like I am guessing.
