More Money Than Accountants Ever Got Me
on April 15, 2013

So incredibly easy to use, and they explain the process in a very accessible way. I don't see myself going to a CPA ever again.
What's great about it: Ease of use, conversational style
What's not so great: Even though its more fun, its still taxes
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

Love it, but could use a 1040EZ
on April 15, 2013
Posted by: Invisiliz
I do our taxes every year with TurboTax and ItsDeductible and always feel that I've gotten every penny out of it. This year I did my daughter's first return and although it was very easy, it would have been nice to be able to just run through four or five questions knowing that she had no deductions or additions. Still, I will be using TurboTax again next year for both of us.
What's great about it: Have used TurboTax for years
What's not so great: Need a short and sweet 1040EZ

I've been using Turbo Tax for at least 10 years and it's a fabulous program. Very easy to use and the transfer feature from year to year is a life saver. Couldn't be easier to file your taxes.

What's not so great: None that I can think of

Easy as pie!
on April 15, 2013

I have been using Turbo Tax for many years. Last year I mistakenly thought that my returns would not be timely filed until "accepted" by the IRS so printed them out and snail-mailed them. Won't make that mistake again, since I checked the Help section and found out that the deadline for timely filing through Turbo Tax was the same as for mailing; specifically, 12:00 midnight local time on April 15th!
Truly, Turbo Tax makes the entire process easy to understand, follow, and complete. Thank you, Turbo Tax!
What's great about it: Walks you through the process step by step and then easy e-filing.
What's not so great: Nothing wrong with this program; it makes filing tax returns painless.

Conflicted update nightmare
on April 15, 2013
Posted by: Jayctwo
I had always been able to sell my wife on the ease with which I was able to use Turbo, even though she or I were not that computer saavy. So for the first time she set out to do our taxes, and when she got to the point to complete them it read: documents were not ready in time but will be coming soon for updates. The time was 11:00 P.M on Sunday 4/14/13 ! I had put it off for so long, never dreaming that we would run into any problems but we did and we could not figure out how to contact Turbo support ! Needless to say we had a very sleepless night and prayed that the problem would be resolved in time, and thank goodness for the power of prayer, and turbo updates . We got back into our taxes and the updates came through and we should easily make our mailing !!! Thats our story and we are sticking to it !!!!!!!
What's great about it: I have always liked the simplicity of Turbo Tax
What's not so great: But the update snaffu that popped up as we were trying to complete our taxes on the nite of 4/14/13 was heart stopping

Many Years with TT
on April 15, 2013

I've using TT since "the beginning." Overall, the "follow the guide" process works very well and makes sure you don't forget anything. The "code" is so good that there is very little chance of putting the wrong info in the wrong place. It's also great to be able to "backtrack," or jump back, to check something or to fix a mistake you realize you made.
My only problem comes with entering K-1's, which are a huge pain to deal with, no matter what! I recognize that these are a problem, in their own right, and have come close to getting rid of the investments that generate these forms! TT does a great job of getting one to the point of entering all the info, but there are areas that can be improved on, like K-1 "T" codes, which are difficult to mess with, due in part to the terminology used to define the codes (company issuing the forms) and how TT interprets the codes. The other problem is trying to "fix errors" that occur in the Form 1116 process. I spent more that a half hour trying to interpret what the "directions" were telling me to do, vs. what I could actually do. I ended up just changing markings in specific boxes until the "fix errors" part of the "final review" told me I had "done well" and there were no longer any errors on my tax forms. That gets spooky when you have 6 hours left to midnight on "TAX DOOMSDAY!"
Anyhow, I will continue to be an avid TT user because there just isn't anything else out there can can do the job any better - at least not in my opinion!
What's great about it: Ability to "follow" or "lead." Can go where need to or just cruise along and eventually get to the end!
What's not so great: Form's K-1 are not "intuitive" and finding/correcting errors is "trying."
