The tax preparation program was overall easy to use and very helpful.
What's great about it: I liked the help option and references to the IRS code
What's not so great: The summary review is not detailed enough for deductions and credits. I found myself having to edit the deduction area
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Handles foreign tax credit poorly

One of the reasons I stick with Turbo Tax is its efficiency in downloading the previous years info and data as necessary. Carry forward on investment expense, capital losses and foreign tax credit is good. However, the actual handling of the foreign tax credit is very poor. I think they need a separate section that deals just with dividends instead of trying to encompass all types of foreign investments and expenses in one interview section. I'd like to see the interview go: 1. What country retained the most foreign taxes? 2. How much was it and how much was the dividend? 3. Next country with foreign tax credit...repeat. Just buzz through it instead of this going through the interview once, do this but don't enter that. Then go through the interview a second time and enter this and that. Also, I could not get the program to recognize multiple countries involving several brokerages' 1099s. It seems to me that with more people investing overseas that Intuit could make this more process more transparent and functional.
What's great about it: Handles the basics very well. Imports previous year data well.
What's not so great: Obscure instructions and poor results with foreign tax credit.

Who says doing taxes is hard?

If one can remember to keep your records together,
especially contributions to religious and non-profit orgainizatins, (just have a simple folder to toss stuff into during the year) doing your taxes using Turbo-Tax is a breeze.

I use turbo tax for our personal taxes and business taxes. I havve been using it for years. It is great to be able to compare the numbers I am entering this year with what I entered last year. I can't imagine doing taxes by hand again.
I ran into one issue with the business taxes. I entered the income after I did some of the deductions. The system did not seem to register that I had entered the income for quite a while and it kept telling me that I could not claim a 179 deduction since I had no income (even after I entered the income).
Otherwise - great!

I have used TT now for three years and I like it more and more. I love the fact that it inputs most of my info for the current year based on last years. And it seems whenever there is a snag in returns being refunded, mine is never one of them!
What's great about it: Takes out the guess work
What's not so great: Its not free! But close enough

Turbo Tax saves the day (and the $$$) again!!!

I am a long time user of Turbo tax and every year it saves the day...This year I waited until the last day but Turbo was ready with an instant download and direct filing!
What's great about it: quick and easy and a last minute lifesaver!
What's not so great: It does not collect and keep track of all my paperwork magically
