I have used turbo tax for over 10 years and it saves my information so I do not have to retype every year. I love this feature. also if you do have deductions this program will let you know, I have saved so much money using turbo tax.
What's great about it: copy information from year to year.
What's not so great: the price.

The edits need work

My submission by efile was rejected because of an obscure problem, after all of your edits had been passed. It was a blank on the second line of the name of a 1099-r submitter. Luckly I have 30 years experience in computers so I could figure out what was going on. A rookie would have been dead in the water.
What's great about it: Wehn it's done it's done.
What's not so great: I ended up with forms to fill out which did not apply. I had to go to "Forms" to delete them.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Works, But....

When further explanation is sought and the program produces an IRS publication with no simple or English language translation it is not always very useful. Totally confused about Community Property treatment and requirements. Also, could not find the 2011 return on my hard drive which was done with Turbo Tax and for which I had a hard copy. Same computer. Found spouse's return. Information was not imported and program treated return as if it was a first time use.
What's great about it: Convenient and easy to follow for standard entries
What's not so great: Greek is still Greek

straight up - straight forward

The TurboTax package continues to improve -- the tax laws continue to become more complex, while TurboTax trys to maintain its straightforward, straight up approach to filing federal and state returns.
What's great about it: takes a minimum of time, continous update of status, extensive
What's not so great: if you start on an area that isn't applicable -- it is impossible to back out

An Old Friend Helps Me Again!
on April 15, 2013

It seems as though I've been using Turbo Tax for ever. Each year it is a little easier. This year #2012 edition# was the best yet. The program is easy to follow, to understand. It is fast. It seems complete and is definitely accurate. I can't imagine doing my federal and state taxes without it.
What's great about it: Up-to-date, user friendly, fast, complete, accurate
What's not so great: I don't have any "cons".

Frustrating!
on April 15, 2013

Tax season is frustrating mainly because of the complexity of our tax code, and TurboTax does help us to wade through it. However, at times it adds its own grief to the process by not using good design to make it easier to get through the process or through its own system problems. A couple of examples: on long lists (such as working through income and deductions), each time one item is completed and I'm taken back to the summary screen, I have to scroll down to click on the "next item" button; Help couldn't take me directly to anything when I typed in "file an extension" or just "extension"; and the password change feature on the site is apparently not working (it seems to have worked, but then takes me to the login screen, and tells me the the password I've just set up is not correct).
What's great about it: It gets the basic job done...
What's not so great: couldn't get to "file extension" or change password...
