Not what it used to be

Turbo Tax is not satisfied that you pay for their deluxe product year after year. The step by step dialog is filled with offers to collect more money from you. They are also many other dialogs that are non productive. I rarely use the dialogs, as I much prefer to just put numbers in forms. If you have a complex return, don't know much about tax forms, and you have the patience to answer lots of questions, turbo tax is probably right for you.
I would prefer a product that just had the forms and good help files that provide guidance on using the forms. This is what Turbo Tax did when I started using it, and I liked it better then. As the dialog has become more complex, the help files have become less helpful.
I have continued to use Turbo Tax for continuity, but one of these years I will transition to a simpler and less expensive program.
What's great about it: Comprehensive
What's not so great: Too Much Fluff, Too Many Dialogs and Sales offers
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Fastest Ever!!

I always do the long forms for Federal and NYS state taxes for the biggest refund but this was the absolute fastest I have ever been done with them and e-filed too!
What's great about it: This was the fastest I have ever been done with my taxes.
What's not so great: The jury is still out.........

Over all it was a good experience

I have used Turbo Tax for multiple years. It was easy to complete the itemized Federal tax form. However, I had to turn my computer off and restart it in order to get the State form to open properly. I've never had that happen before. Fortunately, someone in th Q & A had the answer to restart the program. It was rather frustrating. I hope they get that fixed before next year. I still like Turbo Tax!
What's great about it: Q & A was helpful.
What's not so great: It was hard to get the State form to open so I could complete it.

Long Time User

With the California tax being a deduction for Federal tax purposes, it is vital to have the state program released so that a proper estimated payment can be made before the end of the year. I would urge Turbotax to accelerate the initial release of the state program; it is vital for effective use of your product.

Free from the high cost of tax preparation

I never thought that I could ever do my own taxes until using this product. Tax preparers do not have the time to walk you through and teach you everything that relates to your taxes like this Intuit product.
Our regular personal CPA tax person retired and this subjected me to an unknown rushed few minutes with an impersonal tax preparer who just wanted to get the job done quickly and rush me out. . Answering tax questions just irritated them because it was taking up their time. Although it was a CPA accounting office with that level of fees, my taxes were prepared by a hurried self-employed contract tax preparer called in by the office staff to fill appointments. Because of Intuit, this year I was spared from that trapped, helpless and uncaring feeling while my taxes were being prepared.

it missed a MAJOR MISTAKE... I earned $13,000 and because of a typo -- entry that you would think the program would have caught .. there is a chance that the IRS is going to send me a check for $11,000 and I can only imagine the mess that this will cause .. not to mention fees and penalties ... the government won't be forgiving of a TYPO ... thanks for not checking my work .... UGGGHHHH

Great with one glitch

I have used TurboTax for several years and it seems to get better each year, though this was the first time I had a glitch. After updating my state tax form, before adding information, ended up in a loop that sent me to a page to purchase the state return. Frustrated, I purchased the Virginia return and finished, though I now will try to get my money back because it was supposed to be inlcuded in my Deluxe purchase.
What's great about it: Easy and clear guidance. Very intuitive
What's not so great: There was a glitch in saving/recalling my state return; ended up buying though it was included in Deluxe

I can honestly say this is the first year I didn't not really like Turbo Tax...wasn't as easy to follow this year as past years. Kept telling me scenarios that weren't correct....had to keep going back to figure out what was going on.
