Continuing Experience with TurboTax

If you had used a Ctl-I to add details in the previous year for an item and then you just type a number into the space, TurboTax overwrites the first line of your detail panel.

Problems with college scholarships

Was forced to work around several problems with reporting taxable college scholarship income as described below.
Problem 1: TurboTax did not recognize two different 1098T forms, one undergraduate, one graduate. Forced student to undergraduate status causing problems with American Opportunity credit and other credits.
Problem 2: No way to correctly report taxable scholarship stipend income that is not reported on a 1098T form or a w-2 form and is not reported to IRS but must be reported by the student as taxable income. Needs to be subtraction from this income for exempt expenses as well.
This income was reported on the 2012 form 1040 as miscellaneous income that was reported on line 7 of form 1040. IRS instructions want "SCH $income" indicated to the left of line 7 on form 1040 but this is not allowed on an e-file.

Rocky Roads with State Return

Federal return done quickly and professionally. However, multiple problems with state return. First of all I was instructed that I needed to file taxes in 2 states which was not the case. Subsquently my resident state taxes were totally messed up. I was instructed that I had to go online and get an additional Turbo Tax package. I finally got in touch with tax expert Dave. He was very patient and professional. After much work, we finally got everything straightened out. THANKS DAVE!!!
What's great about it: Federal return done well.
What's not so great: Multiple probleme with state return.

State Return

Have used T/T for many years and I have never had a problem with filing or audit. It has beeen a number of years since we filed a state tax but it was included with the Federal program.This year I don't think I was alerted to the fact that there was an additional charge for e-filing the state reurn. Had I known I would have mailed my state return.
What's great about it: went very smoothly
What's not so great: Confusion about pricing. Installation disk says state return included but it extra charge to file it electronically

Simple Tax Software!

What's great about it: Great user interface, easy help, easy filing!

Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

One and Done - Finished My Taxes in a Hour

E-filing - State needs some bugs worked out. It kept kicking me out.
What's great about it: Quick and easy. Just answer the questions. Works for the whole family.
What's not so great: Going back to change things is hard because it all looks the same
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
