My Turbotax experience
on April 15, 2013
Posted by: ConnieVK
To clarify the "con" I referred to: We didn't file our federal right away because we owed a bit. So we decided to file that yesterday (April 14th). I had closed TurboTax after we e-filed the state earlier in the month and then re-opened it last night when I was going to file. There wasn't any easy way to just get back to "file my federal return now". I had to run through most of the steps again to get to the end where it would then let me file my federal return.
Also, I really wish that you'd allow more than one state return to be filed with the fee paid. It seems like a lot to pay the extra.
What's great about it: Goes through each income and deduction one by one
What's not so great: Couldn't re-open Turbotax to last place I left

Found Turbo Tax so much easier than going to Professional Tax Firms; do your own right at home; have ready access to paperwork/files needed; can access info online; all filing options/needed forms, etc. are right at your fingertips!
What's great about it: Transfer of previous data; error check; efile

Worst Turbo Tax year ever!

1. At end you state that you filled my "individual" New Jersey return. Since my both my returns were "joint" filings, I had to back tract to verity that you had in fact filed a joint state return for me.
2. To track this I attempted to print my fed and state returns for review. I was prohibited from doing this because Adobe Reader was in protected mode. A condition that I have not resolved to date.
3. The IRS Payment Voucher that printed has the PO Box of 931000, but the instructions above (on the same page) instructs the use of P.O. Box 1000. Really?
What's great about it: Basic tax forms walk through process remains consistenlty good.
What's not so great: Different steps are misleading or miss labled.

Taxes

I find it getting more difficult each and every year to do my taxes. Part of it is not Turbo Taxes fault as it is the government requirements etc. However, just doing the Health Savings Account is very confusing and I am still not sure it is correct, especially with what was transfered to State. I live in a RITA municipality and found this better than in previous years
What's great about it: Like being able to download from websights
What's not so great: Confusing when amounts are automatically placed without explanation
