Does not offer very much help with the state of Georgia return. Some information on the Federal return was not transferred to the state of Georgia return. Override was used several times.
What's great about it: Makes filling less cumbersome.
What's not so great: Difficulty dealing with the state return.

Annual Frustration

I've used Turbo Tax for several years and still find that making changes or corrections is very difficult. Needs to have a tab dedicated for making corrections to the different forms/entry points rather than terms such as "edit" or whatever.
Also, needs to have a much simpler way to find and see the forms that are being filed as you go, not at the end!
Also, needs a "save as" so you can send files to different locations AND rename sequentially!
Have not used other programs in a few years, but did find some of them simpler to use the last time I used one of them---lets you see the forms as you go.
What's great about it: Checks math; asks for required information; checks against prior year
What's not so great: Hard 2 make changes--needs a SEPARATE drop down TAB for changes

Could be made easier

The earlier Turbo Tax software had fewer clicks to bring up windows. Now you have to hunt for the window you need.
What's great about it: Most calculations are correct
What's not so great: Must hunt to bring up some windows.

KEEPING IS SIMPLE

This is my first experience and really like the fact that I was able to do all that my "tax guy" did for us last year without damage to our pockets. The program is extremely clear and provides "explain it links" to really understand what is being asked of you and reasoning for everything. I am always looking for a good direct answer and turbo tax provides it to you in black & white. It may have taken a bit longer for my first time but I certainly expect it to be readily quicker next year since it will save all my data securely. Thanks turbo tax for giving us the control we needed over our finances!

adequate with internet help for refund

I found that turbotax is helpful in guiding me through the very common categories and filling them out. If it is not in the mainstream however the help windows where not as useful with examples as they could be. I also had to do much more research than expected on irs website to understand where less common income and deductions may need to go. I was also very disappointed in the help and instructions given for understanding whether college attending dependents meet the 1/2 time support test or not. I had to search the irs sit efor a worksheet to help calculate this. It also was not helpful for scholarships which exceed the tuition and other covered costs on the 1098 form. Finally, I spent much more time understanding if student loans must be treated as income in any circumstance, yes they must be, and how it applies when a loan refund is generated.
What's great about it: guidance on what to fill in and pulling from older returns very helpful
What's not so great: not informative or helpful enough dealing with college loans and scholarships not covering tuition

Taxes are fun

Turbo Tax can easily be used by people with modest computer skills. The software walks you through the complicated process of filing your taxes. It illuminates deductions that most of us don't even realize we are entitled to. It's a little like playing a computer game and it's so much fun when you get to push the "file" button and look forward to a tax return. This was the first year we were directed to refer back to last year's paper copy of our filed taxes. Don't understand why the historic information was not transparent to the software. Would appreciate some feed back on this.
What's great about it: Turbo Tax walks you through the complicated process of filing your taxes and makes it fun and easy.
What's not so great: Didn't like having to refer back to our paper copy of last year's taxes.
