We defected last year and used the H&R Block software. It was not as user friendly as TT and I vowed to come back this year. You all did not disappoint! Thank you for making it so easy to walk through step by step and see what to do at each turn. I feel more confident in this year's return, even though it is the latest I've filed, ever! Thanks!
What's great about it: I was happy with the quick, easy guides of what was covered in each section
What's not so great: The only thing that got a little sketchy for me was my 401K and how utilize it.

Does the job, but UI needs updating

Does the job, worth it compared to doing it by hand. Caught one box that I had missed entering. I trust TurboTax when I have a basic idea of what the rules are, but just rely on it to do all the math and applying the rules precisely to my income, etc. I don't know if I'd use it if I was dealing with a brand new situation unless I was sure it was very common and there was nothing special.
My big gripe: why don't keyboard shortcuts work? E.g. Alt+N to go to the next window? I can't think of another program in Windows that doesn't offer this. It doesn't even seem like up and down arrow work. Makes the whole thing feel like a bit of a pain.. given the subject is taxes maybe that's appropriate somehow but could be more painless if this were improved.
Maybe someone is thinking that forcing you to use the mouse is a safety feature to be sure you intend to click through? I'd be more annoyed if it weren't just a once a year thing.
What's great about it: Does all the calculations I need
What's not so great: Basic keyboard functions, Alt+N, up/down arrow,( used by every Windows program) don't seem to work.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Program is improving year to year

I owe $2099, but have $1200. I'm mailing a check for the $1200 I have April 15, but would like to send the rest via credit card, or by check in the next two weeks. TurboTax didn't offer this kind of arrangement, or I couldn't find it.
What's great about it: fewer detours
What's not so great: Unclear how to file partial payment, with appropriate forms.

The Easy Way

It is an easy flow through the required personal information and the common tax documents that most people have to report to the IRS. The importation of the some of the required documents makes data entry even a easier and the quick search function allows you to quickly figure out where the odd ball forms like the 1099-B go. The only slight downfall is when it gets to the state level. The look and feel of process is a little clunky but it does get the job done. Overall it is an excellent product. - RW

What's not so great: State forms are clunky but get the job done.

I have used Turbo Tax for several years. I appreciate the continual updates and attention to ease of use. I only wish they could collect, sort, and add up all of the expense numbers. Thanks for making my tax filing life easier and accurate.
What's great about it: I love the walk-through current year, comparison to last year, and immediate help when I need it.
What's not so great: My refund went down from last year.

Mixed feelings

Overall good. I've used TT for 8-9 years. So obviously I find it worth coming back for. But.....
ItsDeductible does not have a lot of items and I could not figure out how to use it for most but manually enter the few exceptions.
I had to manually enter data on my Withholding Worksheet, not sure why as I had enter everything as part of the survey process. Had to manually dig back to figure out what the correct entry would be. That's what I pay you guys for.
What's great about it: 90% of refund calculation is simple
What's not so great: ItsDeductible and some manual entry

Thorough and Straightforward!

I did my whole tax return in one day with TurboTax and that included collecting all documents I needed in an unorganized office. I used to go to a Tax Accountant to get my taxes done, but I noticed that I really provided all the information. They asked me questions and typed in my answers. Well, I can do that. Now I'm educated on the process and I don't have to drive anywhere to drop off documents, spend an hour answering questions, then drive back to get my completed return days later.
What's great about it: Walks you through everything
What's not so great: Can be time consuming
