I have used turbo tax for over a decade and do like it but I don't love. Yes part of that is the fact I am dealing with taxes.
The forms on screen should be IDENTICAL to the actual FROM. Turbo tax inserts worksheets in the middle of forms that destroy the visual appearance of how the page looks. I am peeking at last years return and when I look at the screen it looks different. I then have to stop and figure out what is going on. Oh...now I get it and I can continue. The work sheets should float above the page not be a part of it. The worksheets are vital and should be anchored to the location where they are needed but I should be able to minimize them AFTER I have filled them out (have them appear full size so I can unknowing skip over them. I envision a tab on the edge the "page" that I could click and thus expand or minimize the worksheet.
When interacting with TurboTax in the interview mode I would rather have all the questions appear in a long page (continuing off the scree) rather then get one question at a time. Then based on my answer to each question, the next question might moved left or right or be highlighted or greyed out depending if it is applicable. In this way I can see myself and my tax situation moving through the decision tree rather then smoke and mirrors happening out of sight.
I would make the the program more FORM 1040 centric. When I open the program a blank FORM 1040 would appear. TT would then say, "We are going to help you do your taxes and pay as little as possible and get the biggest return possible. Let's start by gathering some information on you and your tax situation." Then as TT asks questions I could see the information being applied to the FORM in the background.
What's great about it: Thoroghly covers the common and obscure parts of the tax code
What's not so great: Spoon feeds user too much we never see the big picture
Pros: I bought or sold investments

i was trying to run my wifes and mine seperately to compare results and found that i had to reload tedious data to each return so i just gave up and filed jointly because i couldnot figure out howto transfer data individually to joint
What's great about it: laid out ok
What's not so great: many unanswered questions or inadequately answered

Good Job

You guys do a great job with the software!! I recommend you to friends and family on an annual basis. The same gender marriage part is the only pain and I think your directions were easier this year in saving the original return and creating a separate return. I think I missed that part last year!
Great product, keep up the good work!
What's great about it: Ease of use, guided questions
What's not so great: Challenges of being married to a person of the same gender!
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

SIMPLY THE BEST!

I hate tax time and yes i am one of those that always waits until the last day to file my tax return. So here I am, one day before due date and I just bought my turbo tax. My friends asked, "are you filing for an extension?", no need, I said, with turbo tax and its step by step guidance, I can be done in a couple of hours and e file today. I started at 5:30 and e-file at 7:05. You gotta love it. I have been using Turbo Tax since 2009 and each year it gets easier and faster.

Mammoth's Review

Once I had gathered the necessary forms - W2's, mortgage statements, etc., Turbo Tax was just 'plug-and-chug.' I liked the ease of use - just follow the prompts. Much easier than last year, when I spent hours filling out the paper forms.
I will use Turbo Tax again next year.
What's great about it: Easy! Cheaper than hiring someone to do taxes!
What's not so great: No complaints

Got it done, and on time!

I was dreading doing my taxes this year, but turbo-tax made it easy. We were able to use the step-by-step guide to get us through most of it. Occassionally, we toggled to the forms button. All done in about 5 hours.
What's great about it: Our taxes are complicated, but we got through it toggling back and forth between the forms and the step-by-step.
What's not so great: I got a complicated error message when the program loaded but it was resolved.

For people who have basic tax returns, Turbo Tax Deluxe is the perfect software for completing this annual job.
What's great about it: Once again, Turbo Tax has been a very efficient and user friendly tool for filing federal and state income taxes.
What's not so great: There were no negative features this year.

Fairly smooth process, with mutli-state file

I appreciated the tools included throughout the data collection process, especially the "Explain more" link tips. The audit risk meter helped me sleep better at night. Overall, TurboTax provides a fairly pain-free tax reporting interface.
On the down side, a little more guidance would have been nice for someone filing in two states (recently moved). It was alright, but I was nervous not having done it before. I found how some of the questions were phrased to be a little confusing upon a first read, but that's likely not entirely unavoidable with taxes! I'd also like to be able to preview forms as they're completed through data collection; or at least have the name of corresponding forms per section.
What's great about it: Good "explain more" sections, audit risk meter, smooth walk-through process
What's not so great: Verbiage sometimes confusing, no form names associated with information sections
Pros: I moved, My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
