Turbo tax was a useful tool. I was not used to the format but realized I needed to trust the layout of the question format. I was used to just filling out a blank form. Turbo tax asks questions as you go thru income and deductions. It was simple especially if you followed the order. I even used their help line and had my questions answered. It gave me extra comfort that I was doing my tax return correctly both with the question format and the ability to reach out with a call. Pleased to be done.
What's great about it: Reading "learn more" prompts gave me information I needed quickly without having to rifle thru pages of a document.
What's not so great: Silly comments as progressed thru steps..."we found...". I didn't need a cheering squad.

That time of year

I've used Intuit tax prep software for many years, since it's beginning. It's the best out there.
What's great about it: Still helpful, gives proper guidance/feedback.
What's not so great: Expensive
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Got taxes owed down to $12

Maybe because I have been using Turbo Tax for so long, it seems to go faster each year. Or maybe my situation just doesn't change much and everything imports from the previous year, making it easy to just update the numbers.In any case, this year went quickly which was a very good thing because we had a lot of distractions due to medical issues and a prolem with a water leak in the house, which led to having mold remediation going on as taxes were coming due. TurboTax made it eady to get the taxes in on time despite outside problems!
What's great about it: reduced liabilities to almost zero, built-in Its Deductible, importing brokerage statements
What's not so great: hand entering cost basis for stock sales, cryptic comments about foreign dividends, cost of state e-filing.

Turbo tax makes it very easy to get your taxes done. I had to call support and the lady was very professional and smart. She had my answers immediately.
What's great about it: turbo tax does everything for me
What's not so great: trouble finding some deductible forms

Another year down with TurboTax

I typically go with the desktop download because it gives me easier access to the underlying IRS forms. Importing the previous years returns make it quick and easy. It would be nice if it saved the selections you already made for the current year if/when you go back through a section. tt makes you re-select all your answers.
What's great about it: Always a quick and easy process with TurboTax even for my itemized deductions
What's not so great: Selections made for current year not saved/selected during review

No E File Success For Me

I followed the instructions carefully but was not able to resolve the reasons for the IRS rejections. I found the help file information and instructions to be less than helpful and a bit confusing. At least they did not help me resolve the problems. I eventually gave up and mailed the return. It made me feel that any cost included in the price of the software to cover e-filing expense was an overcharge in my case! Same problem last year. I was hoping for better this year. Perhaps the IRS records are in error?
What's great about it: I have been using Turbo Tax for many years... Always works well!
What's not so great: Was not able to E-File my simple return.... rejected at least twice!

So easy!

Mostly TurboTax is great. Using it year after year means information that hasn't changed is carried over from year to year. I especially like the Audit Review! Feels good when it's in the green.
What's great about it: Easy to navigate, explains unusual situations
What's not so great: Doesn't cover every situation; a few things were confusing.
