pretty thorough

TurboTax does a good job at jogging your memory about all items of income and deduction. Overall, I think the product is an exceptional value and very useful for all but the most complicated tax returns. It does have some limitations, in that you still need a basic understanding of what you are actually entering in the system. Also, being a CPA, I found there were areas that I knew about, but were not "flagged" by the system. For instance, I knew to enter a depletion amount for royalties received through a partnership owned for investment. TurboTax did not prompt for that. In addition, I found that I could not enter a specific tax exempt interest amount for my state. The system only allows you to enter 100% in-state or 100% not your state.
It is also tough to navigate back to an area that you have been already. You end up having to go back through a series of screens that you don't need to change, instead of being able to go directly to where you need to go.

What's great about it: very good at asking questions to look for additional deductions
What's not so great: not so great to navigate quickly, especially if you have to go back to an area that was already completed
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Turbo Tax Tequila!

I have used TT since 2000. I really like the no cost e-file. Easy easy! Check out my beach. Nice match with the margaritas...
What's great about it: TT is like a Margarita: Price is right. Simple to make. Goes down easy. Makes you feel great! Don't worry..Be Happy! :0)
What's not so great: Bad hangover. Could have bought 5000 Ritas with the tax I owed...ugh

Accurate but not happy

We have used TurboTax for years. We used another tax prep software a few years ago and we didn't like it. We promptly went back to Turbo Tax and will always use it!!
What's great about it: walks you through easy data entry
What's not so great: we owe money!

Overall, quite good. My only complaints are; it didn't prompt me as to if I wanted someone else to communicate with the IRS, getting into the forms to enter things is more difficult than it used to be and when I went to file it said I could enter any 5 digit number as a PIN even though on a previous page it cautions to be sure the PIN is the exact match of what the IRS provided.
What's great about it: easy to use
What's not so great: getting back and forth from guided and direct entry forms isn't as easy as it used to be.

I am not required to file a Tennessee State return. Turbo Tax needs to ask questions to determine if a state tax return is needed. If not then don't try to make me file one.

Best Yet!

I found this years version the easiest version to use. All I had to do was follow the program through each of the steps.
What's great about it: It was the easiest to use yet. Step-By-Step.
What's not so great: NONE
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I have been filing my returns with TurboTax for many years now and it has never failed me. Easy and fast to use and very "intuitive". (Forgive the pun!) I'll be using your software for many more years.
