Best to make the complex simple

TurboTax on a PC is the best of all I have tried over the past 8 years. I like the detailed help available at any point, which actually makes the crazy IRS regulations fairly understandable. I like the detailed walk-through of all items it knows about.
Where it falls down is when you have quite unusual financial situations - for example, are helping family members pay on a house and expenses, plus yours - and both are underwater! So you "sort-of" have two dependents but not by tax rules. And other unusual situations where you "should" be able to find credits or deductions but TurboTax can't be creative..... You know you're going to *owe* more taxes, so you can't afford a professional, but TurboTax can't stretch that far....

I've been using for years. Every year it gets easier. Don't change a thing.
What's great about it: Easy, sumary totals
What's not so great: none

I have used other free file forms for my children while in college and their income qualified them for free file. Turbo Tax is my favorite software. I have used Turbo Tax since 2005.
I like the guide to complete the forms but also like that I can easily go back to any section of the process to review or confirm details. The explanations are usually very easy to understand. The hints such as "rarely" or "exception" offered are helpful. It helps to know that a situation is uncommon for most taxpayers and can usually be skipped.

I wish the K-1 information matched my data better - the instructions didn't seem to match my K-1 very well, and I thought the instructions were opaque. I spent a couple of hours in the TurboTax underbrush, trying to fit a simple $25 foreign tax deduction where it belonged. And when the Errors section came, one of mine (a "carryover thing) had absolutely no context - had no clue where to look for it! Another asked for a state code that was not on my form. I invented one that seemed to work.
What's great about it: Where good, very, very good. Quick and easy
What's not so great: Where bad, very, very opaque. Had real trouble, again this year, with K-1s

Turbo Tax saves me time by carrying forward information from the previous year. It also has much of the name, address information all that all is needed is to change the actual numbers.
What's great about it: Helpful reviews, cross checks math, reminds me of things to look for.
What's not so great: Don't like the extra screen at the beginning before opening the return where it wants name address, etc.
