2012 Turbo tax Experience
on February 22, 2013

Very easy system to use. The biggest time was collecting all the information to key in. The entry of data and review by Turbo tax was the easy part. I highly recommend because the questions asked are very thorough and covered all my items.
What's great about it: I liked the way I could download from previous return. Always a pleasure to use Turbo tax
What's not so great: Nothing
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

The update instructions failed to tell me to look in the MAC tool bar for acquiring the updates. I looked for "Updates" in the Turbo Tax tool bar.
What's great about it: Ease of entering data
What's not so great: Instructions on where to find Turbo Tax updates
Pros: I moved

I expect to use and recommend Turbo Tax but I did find it a bit LESS easy this year, finding answers to my ?'s was not as simple. Printing is a real pain, and the print forms page was confusing w/"print for review" instead of just "print"
What's great about it: I'm 83 - it's so helpful to just answer ?'s and put in info
What's not so great: Printing is too many steps, used to just bring up a form & hit Print

I like the program, but the small font ruins all the positive things in this program. You really need to give the consumer the ability to change the font size......
What's great about it: easy to understand
What's not so great: small font
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I've used TurboTax for 6 years now and really benefit from being able to download our investment information. I also like the fact that I can use it to predict next year's taxes and do different "what if" scenarios. Also that I don't have to re-type information that hasn't changed from the previous year. The report of "effective tax rate" is also informative. On the Con side, I already had everything filled out a week ago and when I went to print out today, I updated only to find another update had been added Feb 20. It didn't affect me but had I been affected, I would have been irritated, especially since this update corrected a calculation error that should have been caught earlier.
What's great about it: Filing for Dummies--Easy to follow
What's not so great: Still updating at end of February; I like to file early

Overall Great Program

I liked everything about it except at the very end when I want to make copies of federal and state returns for my file. I e-filed federal and mailed state. I would like to see a choice given to make copies of federal and state returns individually to either mail or save for the file and make individual selections.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Hard to print copies of state returns for my files

Thoughts on 2012 return preparation

Every year I request some way to alphabetize charitable contributions in Easy Step, and I'm still waiting to see it. Yes, I did notice that they're alphabetized in the Forms mode. So -- now do it in Easy Step. It would also be nice to have the Continue buttons in the same place on every page, so I can click on each successive one without moving my mouse. I really think you'd get more comments if you make this page accessible all during the return prep process -- I had some other thoughts but didn't write them down and now they're gone.... Put a "Comments?" button in the upper right corner or somewhere. Set up the "add detail" boxes so I don't erase the whole first line of existing details if I type in more than one character on the line the details pertain to.
What's great about it: Generally straightforward as usual.
What's not so great: Need a way to alphabetize charitable contributions in Easy Step.
