Turbo tax is very user friendly. The prompts are intuitive and you can get information easily and quickly with just a click.

Was better

I have been using Turbotax for many years. This year, there were more problems than in the past. Some new categories started me into calculations that were complicated and it would not let me just back out and have the whole entry expunged. I had to manually remove the entries and I am still not sure it is fixed. This year there were several hidden fees and more than in previous years.
What's great about it: Simple to use, guided
What's not so great: Hidden costs, did not correct changes

unpleasant task made less uncomfortable

After many years of paying an accountant to take care of this for me, I am now back to doing my own taxes. The advantage of doing this myself is that I am more aware of my financial situation -- what I am spending money on, etc.
I am getting comfort from the clarity of the explanations for each field that I am understanding what I am supposed to be doing and filling in the information correctly.
What's great about it: clarity of explanations
What's not so great: it just takes a lot of time
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Simple-Effective

I bought the Deluxe version of Turbo Tax. I've used this software for over a decade and it keeps getting easier and more user friendly. The guided tour type of walk through works well to make sure you don't miss any incomes or deductions. E-file is a definite plus. Good package. Cost was a bit more than I liked, but worth it in the end.
What's great about it: Guided tour made sure I didn't miss anything.
What's not so great: More expensive than I wanted
