I was very nervous to use TurboTax but found it very easy to complete.
What's great about it: easy to navigate
What's not so great: nothing

Easy breezy!!

This is the 5th year on a row we've used turbo tax. Last year the federal government tried to assess fines on errors within the return. We worked with the fine people of turbotax and they were able help us defend our return and the proposed fines! Turbotax to the rescue!
What's great about it: Worked on our return on our couch
What's not so great: The price keeps going up every year

Easy- despite difficult & detailed filing

I love it...have used this program since 2001. I am a service provider/contractor and it made me review SEVERAL things I hadn't thought of...it also helps to know WHAT to organize for in the upcoming/current tax year.
What's great about it: Helped me get the MAX deductions
What's not so great: Any difficulties were caused by a computer crash (lost 2011 tax return) and no fault of TurboTax

The Federal return was as smooth as ever but I find the state returns less clear and not as inter-connected as the prior year (i.e., increasingly less user friendly and confusing from year to year).
What's great about it: Ease of federal returen
What's not so great: Somewhat awkward state returns

The process for collecting data and explaining available options is easy to follow and understand
What's great about it: Better explanations of what input is required
What's not so great: Auto transfers of interest income form data still not easier than manually inputting the data

Just like a GPS -Helpful, but don't follow blindly

If you understand taxes and are good with taxes (i.e., you have accounting and math skills), and your tax situations are not overly complicated, then TurboTax is very helpful.
But don't rely on TurboTax if you don't have the above skills and knowledge and your return is not plain vanilla. You need to understand enough to know when TurboTax may not be giving you enough direction, and then be able to read IRS rules and figure it out for yourself. Otherwise, you could end making some wrong turns, just like if you blindly follow a GPS.
What's great about it: Gives me confidence that my return is correct. Saves me time.
What's not so great: Doesn't give explicit instructions on handling more complex or unique situations.
