Frustruated
on February 21, 2013

I'll say that Turbo Tax works, but I use the word "works" loosely.
Because of IRS changes this year, I understand that Turbo Tax couldn't release their software fully patched. That's fine, I'm ok with updating my software. What I am not ok with is broken updating software, an unhelpful and vague FAQ, manual updates that don't actually work, and updating multiple times. I find it hard to believe that after updating and e-filing once (rejected for legitimate reasons) that before I e-file a second time, Turbo Tax has to update Federal and State Forms. And if it does, this is concerning for the legitimacy of my tax return. I had to repeat the trying process of updating the program a second time.
Also frustrating is Turbo Tax's seemingly unwillingness to let me change previously entered information. I'm sure it's an attempt to streamline the process of editing basic information like name and address, but I don't want to hunt around on forums for tricks to changing something as simple as my dependency status.
So yes, Turbo Tax works, but the process of filing my taxes has never been so frustrating (or plagued with "add-on" service ads).
What's great about it: Accurate
What's not so great: Difficult to change previously entered information, difficult to update

Good Experience, but a few minor problems

Overall using Turbotax was a positive experience. I would like to be able to enter numbers directly on the 1040 form if I know where the numbers go, but I understand why it works the way it does. However, when you know where something should go it can be frustrating trying to figure out where you must enter it.
I had a unique situation where I had an early withdraw from my IRA and I re-payed all the money within 60 days to the same account. Everything I read indicated that I would not be subject to tax or penalty. There were not questions in the program that were specific to that situation. I ended up answering questions differently just to get the program to put the numbers on the 1040 correctly.
We moved states within 2012 and if I entered the state that we lived in at the beginning of the year (a logical place to start for me) in the sales tax area then I could only add additional locations within that same state. Once I realized that I needed to start with my current state and then add the previous one all was well. However, I feel like it shouldn't matter in which order I enter my locations. It should always accept an additional location outside of that state.
Lastly, I felt like when I edited a section that I had previously been through that I had to re-answer/check questions/boxes that I had previously done. If I had checked something the first time through the program should keep those responses/checks and merely allow me to change them when I edit.
What's great about it: Easy to navigate
What's not so great: Had to re-answer questions, some sections confusing
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved, I bought or sold investments

Gotta Have It - Got IT

This is my fifth year with TurboTax. Each year it has proved itself in getting a maximum return for me. I was filing, myself, using the instructions from IRS. The first year I had figured my taxes by hand and my son told me about TurboTax. I refigured using TurboTax and doubled what I would have gotten back. I'm sold!
What's great about it: Made getting the right information in the right place easy!
