2012 Return

Don't know if it is a Turbotax issue or an IRS issue, but the work sheets are way too lengthy!!! We generated about 100 pages of work sheets - most for simple charitable donations.
This need to be addressed
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Work sheets TOOOOOO long. For every one time charitable donation, 3-4 pieces of paper were generated! Ridiculous

I've been doing taxes through software for years and this year Turbotax is even better... easier and much more user-friendly.
What's great about it: Great program and easy to use!
What's not so great: Sometime had trouble navigating -- but generally good

re: above, I finally entered "not avail" and it gave me a message saying use "UNKNOWN" if unavailable. I wish I had that note A LOT SOONER IN THE HEADING as I wasted a lot of time trying to find EIN number(s).
What's great about it: can stop and revisit, optional explanations, navigation
What's not so great: insisted on a EIN number for a summer rental, which were multiple entities,

It's Good but....

I have been using TT for years. I would like the makers to be up front about additional filing fees in my state and additional charges from TT for e-filing prior to me selecting to e-file. I would have filed earlier by mail if I were made aware of the fees at the start of my return. The program doesn't check for errors like duplicate entries. entered an income twice and panicked because it meant I would owe a huge amount to the govt. The program gets me by, but I am not 100% confident in it.
What's great about it: Inexpensive
What's not so great: Hidden fees. Doesn't check for errors like duplicate entries.

Easy to use

Turbo Tax asks you the questions needed to file you taxes. As long as you have the paperwork, the software gives you the fields to fill in the information. I can't imagine how it could be any easier. It then takes your information for the Federal Return and applies it to the State Return - thus reducing the risk of transposing numbers. With Turbo Tax, the hardest part about filing taxes is collecting all of your tax documents - all of which is usually mailed to you. And if you use Turbo Tax the next year, it pulls in all of your prior year information and prompts you to fill in current year numbers - prompting you to not forget about those accounts. Easy!!

I definitely could not do my return alone. I have actually used Turbo Tax for years now but have had another CPA review it two years in a row. Each time the results were the same so I fully place trust in the Turbo Tax product.
What's great about it: Turbo is so user friendly. It truly saves me a whopping fee for tax return preparation.
