Awesome

I have used Turbo Tax for several years and it has gotten better and better. Some of my family members and others have raved about other products but I am wedded to Turbo Tax and don't plan to get a divorce.
What's great about it: Ease of use
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Very comprehensive and easy to follow

I have been using turbo tax several years. And I loved this product because it gave me very comprehensive and easy to follow steps. But one thing I disliked was that I tried to use both web version and desktop version. Web version is no problem but with desktop version(on Windows), error checks sometime showed wrong error-found. it happened when I saved tax return and came back to it to complete my tax. For my case, the wrong error check was about my kids(dependents). The error-check kept asking the information about my kids even if I already put all information there.
What's great about it: very comprehensive and easy to follow
What's not so great: Desktop version had wrong error check

This program helped me immensely! TurboTax asked all the right questions so that I could make sure every penny of deductions I deserved from my sole-proprietorship were accounted for. It really helped me put all of my income and deduction amounts in all the right spaces. Have used it for years and I am not planning on stopping anytime soon.
What's great about it: Helps sole-proprietors and asks all the right questions!
What's not so great: The extra work from finding the paperwork and adding up what it asks for that I didn't expect to get a deduction for.

Needs calculator

1. A useful feature would be a calculator to help with entering amounts within the "Supporting Details". I have to use an external calculator if I want to enter an amount based on a monthly cost for the entire year.
2. For the Hawaii State Return, I could not choose the use of the Standard Deduction. The only option it provided for choosing the standard deduction was if I was "married but filing single".
3. In the "Forms", I override the Itemized Deduction values within blocks 21a-21f but the total in line 22 does not change to reflect the new total; I have to override the total value also.
What's great about it: Good Federal Return
What's not so great: Bad State (Hawaii) Return

Taxes Made Easy

Very helpful to have previous year tax input provided so I can compare with current year information. Having charities listed from last year return made entering current year much easier and faster. Also helps to have personal identification information entered and all I did was check it for accuracy. Was able to complete both Federal and State taxes in about 3 hours. Directions are clear and make sense. Would recommend TurboTax for anyone to use.
What's great about it: Easy to follow guided directions on how to complete both Federal and State taxes even with 401K details.
What's not so great: Would prefer that the state of Oregon allow electronic payment of taxes owed rather than a mail in voucher and check.

Intuit Nickel and Diming you to death!

1-Keep making the product much more expensive than rate of inflation!
2-Nickel and Diming you to death!
3-The software has access to ALL your forms and data from the previous tax year that was done using the TurboTax YET making you to manually look them up and hand enter them!!! Very annoying!!! All because you chose NOT to upgrade your pretty expensive TurboTax Deluxe to the TurboTax Turbo or whatever!!!
4-There are certain steps in the process of doing your return that is confusing!!!
5-If you have more than ONE (1) State that you have to do - OMG - it is crazy at time.
2-Nickel and Diming you to death!

2012 Tax Filing

Overall it is a simple product to use, but there are some issues bypassing areas that had information in prior year's returns that no longer have information. I had to put in 0s in a lot of places, and some times when I would put 0s in it would come back and ask me if I needed to review it again, and then I'd review it and put 0s again, and it would bring me back to the same screen, so I finally just had to skip the areas. I appreciate that it is trying to be thorough, but it should understand that sometimes people no longer own small businesses, or other things change, and if that is the case 0s don't need to be entered on all of the schedules.
What's great about it: Fairly simple to use, fairly straight forward questions, pretty good help on questions where needed
What's not so great: It is difficult to bypass areas where I had information in prior years but no longer have information
