since I used Turbo Tax last year almost everything was already transferred over. Love Its Deductible too. now if Turbo Tax can only get me to do my taxes earlier so im not rushing around the deadline - I'll be happy!LOL
What's great about it: Super easy
What's not so great: cant think of any
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Turbo Tax is easy to use; the only problem is that if you need clarifications it take too many steps
What's great about it: It guides you
What's not so great: Obtaining answers too many steps

THE BEST REFUND SO FAR!

TURBOTAX IS THE BEST WAY ON HOW TO GET YOUR TAXES DONE QUICKLY & EASILY. THEY FIND YOU ALL KINDS OF WAYS TO MAXIMIZE YOUR DEDUCTIONS. I ALSO LIKE THE FACT THAT THEY DO AN AUDIT RISK SUMMARY FOR YOU TO SEE RATHER OR NOT IF YOU RUN THAT RISK OF BEING AUDITTED. I GOT BACK MORE MONEY THAN I WAS EXPECTING. WHICH IS GREAT.
What's great about it: VERY HELPFUL IN ALL AREAS
What's not so great: THERE WASN'T ANYTHING THAT I DIDN'T LIKE.

Overall, a great product that I've used for over 5 years now, maybe even10....as long as I can remember. Needs an explanation of the Virginia spouse tax credit, since you need to fill in a number, but that's the only item that didn't seem to have a thorough explanation of. I am still unsure of that, even after looking on the State's website.
What's great about it: Easy to use. Walks you through everything.
What's not so great: Didn't have an explanation of the Virginia spouse tax credit, which I'm still confused about.

Married filing separately in CA? Do not buy!
on April 13, 2013

Generally turbo tax works for me, but if you happen to live in a community property state (CA, etc.) and you are married trying to file separately, you are better off just filling out the forms manually. TurboTax erroneously double reports your community property on form 8958 and it is nearly impossible to correct - you have to actually manually set the 'other income' line to zero since you cannot simply delete it.
On top of that, it offers nearly zero assistance (or even explanations) on how to handle community property. You have to do a lot of your own research (and I mean a LOT) and then you have to drop into the forms to fill everything out (after you set up an Excel spreadsheet to figure out the correct numbers because TT won't even do simple math for you).
It is a nightmare.
Married filing jointly is totally smooth (as is, I assume, filing as a single).
This is the first year I have had anything more complicated than a simple return with itemized deductions and TT kind of fell down hard. Given that, I think I'll either do it by hand next year (since that is mostly what I wound up doing this year) or hire it out.
What's great about it: Doesn't crash. Good for simple returns
What's not so great: Married filing separately in a community property state d/n work

I have tried theTAX ACT in the past and went back to using Turbo Tax. I feel they ask the questions in a way that I can easily understand what information is needed to create an accurate tax return. Very Happy with Turbo Tax!
What's great about it: Turbo Tax asks simple questions and then gives more info just when needed most!
What's not so great: Need more info when reviewing and errors are found. The actual tax form is more confusing than the questions.

Because my IRA is diversified, I got a 1099-R for each investment choice for my RMD. This meant I had to enter all the 1099-R information four times. Could use a short cut for that. Add in a W-2 and three other 1099s and I was doing a lot of data entry. The difference between rounding (truncating) the less than whole dollars cost me almost $6 compared to doing my return manually with the cents.
What's great about it: Like the e-file. Like the peace of mind that the return is right.
What's not so great: A lot of data enrtry
