Makes the Whole Process Less Taxing (Bad Pun)
on April 13, 2013

Turbotax is a huge help for doing my taxes. That being said, I usually cringe before hitting the submit button, wondering if I really did everything the right way. Let's face it - the whole tax process is complicated and messy. I like the interview process and the way the necessary information is transmitted to the state taxes. I breathe a sigh of relief when it's all over. Doing taxes is stressful, but TurboTax makes it less daunting.
What's great about it: Mostly non-technical language; a good buy; interview process is linear and makes sense; transer of information yearly
What's not so great: Some parts are confusing

Peace Of Mind
on April 13, 2013

I am NOT an experienced person with taxes. I've done them maybe 3 times in the last 20 years but TurboTax really took the fear away. By the time I was done I hand peace of mind that they were done completely and correctly. The program takes you through each section (i.e.,Wages, Interest, Credits, Pension, etc.) in a clear and logical manner. Each and every entry can be checked and edited if necessary. You can always back up or review a section that you might need to edit. There are small pop-up help menus along the way that answered all my questions. It's truly a user friendly program!
What's great about it: Guides you step by step but lets you click back and check or change an entry.
What's not so great: TurboTax was a winner for me!

Just so easy and convenient for the last 30 years!

Turbotax has been my preferred tax software ever since I was required to file 1040s. I have used mostly the CD or download software but even their online service is great. Will continue to use Turbotax unless my tax situation gets really crazy or complicated. I spend about 8-10 hours in totality for completing my semi-complicated taxes in the Deluxe with state version (W2,Sched D,K-1 Partnership Income (done by acct)). Save myself $400-$800 and treat my family to a nice weekend :)
What's great about it: Reasonably priced, free Fed filing
What's not so great: State e-file charges - should be free also

Very few annoyances

I've been a Turbo Tax user for more than a decade and find the carry-over feature to be of great help in completing my returns. A few minor program quirks test my patience but, overall, this is a fine product. I have confidence in the calculations and documentation.
What's great about it: Easy to follow guide; clear instructions for most situations; good help tools
What's not so great: Print area for financial input can be small. Wish the "Continue" button appeared at both top and bottom of page
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Loading the previous year's data is a tremendous help; step-by-step makes the process quite easy.
Great product!
What's great about it: Step-By-Step is AWESOME!
What's not so great: Can't really think of any and we've been using Turbo Tax for 7 years...

Double entry of information!!!

The only area that throws me off (2nd time). Where I enter Royalties, I received $45.00 for the year for gas drilling near my home. Program has me enter the mortgage interest I paid for the year. Then later on, the program has me enter the the mortgage interest again. I figured that I should only enter this once, so I had to go back and delete it from the Royalties section. I went from owing about $700.00 up to $2884.00. That's a big difference that was not corrected by the software error test. Reply would be appreciated. But do like your program overall:)
What's great about it: Overall, most is self explanatory, and easy to use
What's not so great: One area that is a little confusing.

Good, but not perfect

It seems to want me to enter the same income twice, once from a K-1 form (which I get from the bank) and again from a 1099-DIV which I do NOT get from the bank. It will not let me bypass the error it manufactures this way.
What's great about it: It gets a little more straightforward every year.
What's not so great: Entering trust information continues to be exasperatingly confusing.

Back to stay!

I used many different tax programs and have always returned to Turbo Tax.
I started to do my taxes using different programs and finally decided that "The Turbo Tax" way is the way to go from now on.
I have never been disappointed and feel that I won't in the future.
I've already done the testing so you don't have too.
Use Turbo Tax and don't worry about what else is out there.
What's great about it: Very helpful for one who doesn't really know taxes at all.
What's not so great: Non
Pros: I bought or sold investments
