Simple & Quick Tax Process

Having used Turbo Tax for the past several years, I have been more satisfied each and every year. First my returns became more and more complex (real estate, investments, etc.) then more and more simple (part-time retirement to full Social Security). I have used just about every function in the tax paying process except for foreign investment/profits.
The step by step process or drive on your own fits for every level of customer. When I first began using Turbo Tax, I needed the step by step questions and forms. As I became more comfortable and began to understand (on the simplest level) the tax requirements, I was able to skip around to those items that applied directly to me.
What's great about it: Covers simple and complex tax situations
What's not so great: Slow

Love Turbo Tax makes me a Tax Preparing Champion instead of a guy in line at H&R Block or someplace paying for this easy service! Have used it 3 years in a row NEVER had any difficulties or problems, a kid in 1st Grade could use it!

2012 Turbo Tax Deluxe

I found that many of the questions from previous editions were not there in this 2012 software. I was asked about multiple inputs (63!) on my state return that I have not been asked before and there was no corresponding information about the question. Must be a software glitch?
What's great about it: About the same ease in most of the software as previous editions
What's not so great: No preliminary questions concerning home sales, etc. I had to dig that out

Way to simplify a cumbersome process

The only problem I had was in going back in the return to make corrections (which were minor), and finding it dificult to return to the right step in the review process.
The 'It's Deductible' process worked out very well.
What's great about it: Easy to follow instructions and step by step process
What's not so great: Making corrections was dificult

Good But Not Perfect

The problem I encountered was with entering data from the two K-1 forms (one for federal and one for state) that I received from a trust. The numbers on the federal K-1 flowed nicely into Form 1040. The same trust also sent a state version of the K-1 which had different numbers from the federal version (due to some tax exempt income at the federal level which was not tax exempt at the state level). There was no way to enter the numbers from my state version of the K-1 into my state return. Instead, the Alabama state return extracted numbers from form 1040 with the federal K-1 values. There was a big discrepancy in the numbers. This resulted in my Turbo Tax state return being incorrect. So, the Turbo Tax guarantee did not hold up in this case.
What's great about it: Federal was smooth as silk.
What's not so great: State was totally aberrant

Easy and almost fun to do

I have now used turbo tax for 12 years and find that each year it is easier to navigate through it.
