Extremely simple to load and get started.
Walking through all the steps and looking at all options through the eyes of an expert is very reassuring.
Transfer of data between the Federal and State forms made the State filing completely effortless.
What's great about it: Appreciated the guided tours and having access to all necessary forms

I ca see that the Quicken interface make things even easier. Access to on line or personal help is also great.

Turbo Tax

It was a very good experience. Considering that I am all already a very picky numbers person, this tool allows you to go over many things and if you have the time it is better than working with an accountant who may or may not be up to date with current tax laws.
What's great about it: Very Detailed

ok overall

Overall ok. I have used an accountant for the past 9 years, but he retired. I found the basics are ok. There was a point in the 1040 on schedule D that needs a bit of work. The short versus long term gains and losses are on a separate screen but the impression was that the 1099 dividends were the only items included until you moved to the next screen. As such, it did not seem that the schedule was done until you were out of the section-this was disconcerting at first. Unfortunately, I got hit with the AMT. This needs more help. They do direct you to the website for my state's AMT and instructions. However, in order to complete my states AMT, I need info from the fed return and have to complete part of it by hand with printed forms because the question asked by turbo tax cannot be answered unless you happen to know the lingo and rules for the state AMT or learn the lingo and rules to make certain you provide the accurate data. Turbo Tax does have an explain this link, but it is not sufficient to answer the question without the lingo and rules.
What's great about it: basics are good
What's not so great: AMT explain this section needs help
