it was very easy for first time user of turbo tax. I was always afraid to fill tax myself but after this I am very confident I can do it.
What's great about it: it is very easy to fill with step by step explaination

I have been using TurboTax for several years and it is much more efficient and easier than the manual returns I used to do.

To be fair, I have nothing to compare TurboTax to. I've never used any other program to do my taxes (other than a fat booklet from the IRS and my own calculator). I really like that it automatically pulls in my info from previous years, and it's always worked for me, so never any reason to look elsewhere. I like that there is a step-by-step process and that I don't have to figure things out on my own. I also love the donation calculator because we give away a lot of items every year. Who knew how t-shirts can add up! Some parts of TurboTax could be more intuitive, such as moving back and forth between categories and support (maybe more explanation) on the parts that the average person doesn't use every year (like doing contract work). When you do just a tiny bit of work on the side (like I did in 2011) but not enough that I think should qualify for "self employment," I didn't feel there was enough guidance or clarity in that section. Overall, if you have a straight forward return, TurboTax is definitely the way to go. Oh, and a recommendation. TurboTax should offer an "e-file versus mail in" tutorial EARLY in the process. For someone like me who works on the return in March but then for whatever reason doesn't actually file until the last minute (ridiculous, I know), I would e-file, but I never remember that I need a PIN which seems like a hassle to try to find on April 14, so I end up just mailing every year. If you tell me in March that I need a PIN, I might actually look it up in advance. May seem like my problem more than TurboTax's, but hey, I pay the money for you to make it easy for me, right?

TurboTax Rocks

I love TurboTax and have been using it for years now. I love the step by step directions and feel that ANYONE can do their own taxes with TurboTax. One fault that I did find was when doing my son's tax he wanted to have his refund placed on the Visa debit card (as TurboTax said you could) however after following the instructions I was still not able to sign up for the Visa card. Please go over your instructions again.

What's not so great: Could not find how to put refund on Visa gift card

Delays in Minnesota

Due to errors in the Minnesota state return software, I will have to consider using a different product for 2013 taxes. I completed by federal return using TurboTax in early 2013 but had to wait quite a while until the Minnesota Revenue Dept. issued an "all clear" message on TurboTax. Much inconvenience and delay. Better quality control is needed at TurboTax on that state return software and perhaps others as well.
What's great about it: I like the easy to navigate and clear interface that TurboTax provides. Step by step screens are helpful.
What's not so great: Errors in MN state version require a significant delay in filing my return.
