Never Stress With TurboTax!
on April 12, 2013

TurboTax is just a blessing. It takes longer to gather your tax documents than it does to file with TurboTax.
What's great about it: Keeps you informed of refund or tax due.
What's not so great: No Cons

My taxes are pretty straight forward and I have been using this software for quite a few years. Some questions/instructions are more obscure than in the past. For example, during the error checking the instructions said "see help", but there was no help provided. Eventually there was an answer in the community forum.
What's great about it: ability to import much of the information
What's not so great: less built in help

Once I have checked something, I do not believe that it should be necessary to check it again the next time I use TT.
Same goes for upgrade or not. ONE TIME only
PLEASE
What's great about it: easy
What's not so great: must check "I will do it myself" every time

Quick and Easy

The program will occasionally insert an unnecessary form and say there is a mistake that needs corrected. This has been a repetitive problem over several years, as I have been using this program exclusively since it arrived on the market. The issue seems to be a carryover issue from when I previously owned a business and it keeps wanting to have me fill out the vehicle expense form. Other than that, the program is wonderful! It is self-explanatory and easy to follow. I highly recommend it.
What's great about it: directed questions used to taylor the return specifically for you

Overall Pretty Darn Good

As an older person who is barely able to keep up with all the features of computer forms and processes, I can heartily recommend using this program for overcoming the nooks and crannies of tax return rules and pitfalls. It is really easy to follow and you can be sure that any unplanned accidental errors you might make will be found and you will be able to make required corrections with amazing ease.
What's great about it: Prompting item to item eliminates errors.

Disliked New 2012 format, difficult to use

This is the 3rd year I have used Turbo tax. This year it has changed and was more difficult to use for filing a joint return. I had to go back to figure out where I put my information in as the spouse. I did not feel it was "user friendly" this year. Very disappointing and will try another system next year.
What's great about it: I did not like the system this year
What's not so great: Confusing this year for joint filers

Back and Forth

I've been using TT for years, and there have certainly been major improvements. However, I still find it cumbersome to go back to a specific place to update something - for instance, wages or deductions. I want to update a single line, and then return to the place where I was working without having to step through everything again. A button allowing 'Go Back to Last Place' would be very helpful.
What's great about it: Seemless transfer of data
What's not so great: Not easy to go from one place to another
