Use rof TurboTax

Overall, I'm satisfied. I like having the comparison year-on-year, and the ability to pull in basic information from prior returns.
Entered a lot of information into on-line It's Deductible tool which was supposed to transfer in, but got error messages when tried, and ended up entering again, directly into TT.
Would like to have ability to e-file at least 1 state "free" with Federal.
What's great about it: Carries forward from prior years; leads me through each topic
What's not so great: Couldn't get all imports to work (e.g. It's Deductible)
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Getting Worse

Some of the explanations for the entries required don't explain clearly and add more confusion.
There still is no obvious way to apply refund to next year.
TT knowns if a state return is not required, yet forces you to skip filling out a state return seveal times. During the checkout process, you are invied once more to fill out your, not required, state return.
Even though I applied a part of refund to next years taxes, in the text dialog, the new refund amount was not reflected. The refund amount at the top and in the forms was correct. It left on wondering if everything was calculated correctly on what was xmitted to the IRS.
Please allow the user to opt out of the annoying request for support EVERY TIME TT is opened. The same for TT support when trying to check out.
During checkout, I was asked for missing employer info, tax id & zip code (not at the same time, but, while 'calculating and checking return). One would think that whe the data was originally entered would have been a good time to alert user. But wait, the data was all already entered at the right time???
A better font for numbers would be appreciated. In some boxes they seem to touch each other.
What's great about it: Not getting simpler or better.
What's not so great: Still little 'gotcha's' in entering the data. The older versions had a better feel for filling out the forms.

Great but ...

I had an issue last year.
The California State tax e-file did not work.
There is no easy way to call TurboTax to get refunded of your e-file fee (I understand they do not want to be called for any tax advice), I did manage to get hold of them and be refunded. That was not a very pleasant experience.
To be fair, I do not know if this was their fault or the State's fault, nevertheless they had not anticipated this issue
What's great about it: Easy to understand, guided step-by-step
What's not so great: 2011 state e-file did not work, refund problematic

Turbotax is way better than heading to tax preparer. I could even sit and watch basketball as I filed and couldn't do that in a tax preparers office !
What's great about it: FAST guided to an accurate filing
What's not so great: Cost of filing federal E file is a negative...wish it was less$$

Great Product

Turbo Tax 2012 works great, I think a bit faster than last year. My business closed in fall of 2012 and so I had less information to add. Next year will be great. Should be simple without that business information.
What's great about it: Faster than last year
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Oregon glitch
on February 17, 2013

If you've made a donation to the Oregon Cultural trust and to a qualifying organization, you need an addition code to put into a box on the form. I finally went to the Oregon Dept. of Revenue site and found the instruction booklet for Form 40 to find the addition code so I could complete my form. This added about 45 minutes to my total time for preparation. I was looking for help in TurboTax's help file and got nothing.
What's great about it: fast way to prepare taxes
What's not so great: mistake in Oregon instructions
