Makes something dreadful a little easier

I have found turbo tax pretty easy to use. I have used it for years now and I would never go back to paying someone to do my taxes. I mean really, the most difficult part of doing the taxes is gathering all the appropriate papers together. I like the ability to find answers to my questions easily. For example, why do they call my contribution to my hsa an employer contribution- that really stumped me. It comes out my pay, but it was all explained there in the questions area. It was no easier to swallow, but at least I understood. Thanks Turbo Tax, you do make doing something dreadful just a little bit easier.
What's great about it: easy to use
What's not so great: despite paying for the software I have to pay to efile state taxes

2012 tax review

I've used Turbo Tax (TTx) for 3 years now. I prepare ahead with all inputs, tables of giving, taxes, mileage, volunteer work, medical records, etc. It is most helpful that TTx remembers and links information from year to year. This greatly simplifies filling out Schedule A (probably the brunt of the work for most people).
2012 was a more complicated year for me with unemployment, medical, and more. The only snag I ran into was that the dashboard disagreed with the State question about what I owed. The summary seemed to clear up the discrepancy, but the it asked me about either letting TTx or the state calculate a penalty when TTx already had done so. A little more text on the guided screen would be very helpful.

Thanks for guiding us through what must be a terrifying tax season due to all the changes at the government level, that the IRS than must translate into Tax Code, and then Intuit must turn into forms, calculations and instructions. It's a good year to have behind us.
What's great about it: I always like what I call the dashboard and the ability to bring up a summary window. Easy to answer questions
What's not so great: State return had a couple unclear questions with no help to answer
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I find Turbo Tax extremely helpful and have used it for years. I do find the guide for dealing with savings bonds when used for education to be more complicated and problematic then most any other part of the program. I have issue with having to pay so much additional for each state return and then another fee for filing them. I think there should be a price break when you have to purchase multiple states and subsequently have to file them. It is cheaper to buy another copy of turbo tax with a free state then to buy an additional state.
What's great about it: I have used this program for years and hope to continue to do so for many years. I find it very helpful .
What's not so great: I think the charge for filing states and purchasing states is too high and a discuont should be given for multiples

So Very Easy Thanks to TurboTax

Taxes are not always easy, but TurboTax walked me through it step by step asking all of the right questions. They added a lot of features for assistance this year. In all, it was very easy to get it done and file on time.

What's great about it: Easy to use step by step.
What's not so great: Wanted to file extension but could not get it to work. Got hung up on the free update to brouser.

Great job TurboTax. Only twist was this year's software (we used TurboTax for years) did not recognize last years TurboTax file so we had to manually load the recurring information (versus the software using last years information).
High recommend TurboTax to all that want less hassle and every available benefit to maximize the return.
What's great about it: Super Easy that even a caveman can do it!
What's not so great: This year the software didn't recognize previous year Turbotax file on our iMac. Had to manual load information.

Disappointed with Errors

After over a decade of development I cannot comprehend why Turbo Tax continues to have difficulties with basic stuff and especially in transmitting material from Federal to State returns. All the positive things about using Turbo Tax evaporate in the frustration of dealing with details that one cannot get to work.
What's great about it: Helpful with basic stuff; Generates forms
What's not so great: Errors in noting Unreimbursed employee expenses and in dealing with car expenses
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
