Thank you for everything
What's great about it: I do my taxes the long way & this year I did it both ways & they come out the same, so now I will use Turbo Tax only

Tax Return Made Simple

Once you have gathered the backup to support your return Turbo Tax entries are systematic with an ongoing tab of where you stand on your tax responsibility at any given time while making your entries.
Turbo tax does an excellent job of carring over prior years info to facilitate filing of the current years return.
What's great about it: Simplicity of Turbo Tax
What's not so great: Knowing Turbo Tax is easy to use I sometimes delay filing to near the deadline.

TurboTax Delux for Tax Year 2012

Intuit continues their tradition of delivering tax preparation software that makes it possible for just about any adult to complete a normal, personal tax return. The Step-by-Step interview wizard is very well done; the flow of topics is logical, the amount of information in each screen is good, and the information content of each screen is easy to digest. Information flows seamlessly between Interview mode and Forms mode, allowing to quickly and directly enter some information in Forms mode, then switch to Interview mode to be sure all aspects of a topic has been visited. Another good thing, this year there seem to be fewer (or less overt) advertisements for additional Intuit products, such as Audit Defense. I also note that the "Its Deductible" feature is very helpful and works well.
There are a couple of things I didn't like, though. The Help feature does not work as I would like. It seems to need an active internet connection, as it sends you to a web site. In itself that is not a problem. However, when you get there, you are shown some generic help, not even for the field, screen and topic you started from. Previous versions of TurboTax would bring up help targeted to the field you were working in. Now instead of getting context sensitive help you have to figure out how to ask a search engine about your issue.
My second gripe is that double clicking a field does not always bring up a supporting details sheet. It does in the State program I used, but not in the Federal. It took me almost until I was finished to get the idea to try right clicking in the field. Until then I thought the supporting details feature had been taken away. Historically, double clicking brought up a supporting details sheet. There should be consistency between Federal and State, and changes this big in how to use the product should be communicated prominently.
My third gripe is that when coming back to a saved Step-by-Step session, the program doesn't bring you back to where you left off. You start over and have to click through a number of screens to find where you left off. More than once this had me trudging through work I had already done to find what I had to do next.
The last item I'll mention is that the review process found that some information was missing, which is good, and attempted to guide me to complete the data entry. It gave me three choices for how to enter interest income attributable to investments in multiple states. I found the instructions straightforward, but was still confused as to the best way to proceed because it wasn't clear how the State program would sort out what interest income was taxable and what wasn't. The instructions said one possibility was to lump all of the interest income together and specify XX instead of the individual state abbreviations. I spent a lot of time searcing but I couldn't find any help on using XX and how it would all sort out, and I didn't want to go all the way throught the State program and then have to go back and redo everything. The experience was frustrating and time consuming. I don't think I should have to buy TurboTax Premier just to be able to find help on suggestions the program gives out.
While I hope Intuit addresses the issues I've listed, I still think TurboTax is a very good product.
What's great about it: Use is very straightforward. Switching between interview mode and forms mode is easy. Forms previews are nicely done.
What's not so great: Help feature does not work as I would like. Double clicking a field does not bring up a supporting details sheet.
