Excellent Program

Had not done by taxes myself for several years, but this program made it easy to do. It takes you through the process in a step-by-step manner and you just respond to the questions asked by the program. TurboTax makes the IRS forms more intelligible by insulating you from them completely. At the end, it prepares a nice package and a very presentable return.
What's great about it: Easy to use, straightforward

Great product

I have been using Turbotax since it came on floppy disks. I hired a CPA twice over the years to do it manually, and had mistakes both times. For the most part, TT has worked flawlessly, and support has been great on the rare occasion that I needed it. This year, there were issues with downloading state products on one of my Windows 7 computers. The support staff was able to identify that there was a run-time issue, and I was able to move to another machine and get it working. My taxes this year involved a move between states, and lots of investment data downloaded from my brokerage, and everything worked fine, including the partial year state forms.
What's great about it: Hides the complicated stuff when I need it to
What's not so great: Did not work on one of my computers

So easy

Every year it gets easier too use. If you have all the paperwork
before you seat down and start you can finish in thirt y minutes or less. I keep all my old taxes and Turbo Tax gets the information from them so I do not have too retype it. Saves me a lot of time because I can not type.. This program looks for right offs that has saved me a lot of money. When you are done Turbo Tax looks for problem areas and helps you fix them. I will use Turbo Tax until I die. No kididng.

A little tricky

Imputed sales have to be done manually as the tax reporting is such that the gold that you own has to be stored in a vault in London and New York and in the past few years the tax code treats this a little differently. The sales that you show on your tax form are actually “imputed sales” (didn’t actually happen) as to show a sale in order to pay for the storage fees on the ounces of gold that you own or at least that is the theory behind the insanity. Technically, these should be reported as long terms sales so you could make up a date of purchase in excess of 365 days ago and use a cost basis of zero. Then you would pay long term capital gains taxes on these sales. You could make this up by increasing the cost basis on the current shares that you own and therefore not pay taxes on the same gains twice.
What's great about it: good solid program
What's not so great: has trouble with stuff like gold

Overall, nice work. I just wish I could ask a question and be guaranteed a response from a tax expert - not others fumbling their way through the process like myself
What's great about it: Really well developed in the process of walking you through all steps involved in the process.
What's not so great: Ability ask and have legitimate answers was not well supported

Year after year I have used Turbo Tax and the transfer feature is great making the tax year file process much more simple. Years ago we used tax books to figure it all out. Today, you have it all at your finger tips. And your personal information is transfered year to year. It's great!!
What's great about it: Enjoy the speed and records transfered year after year
What's not so great: Just going back to look and open program. If you don't re-save it is gone> BAD
