Great & Easy

Made the mistake of buying a different software for 2012 tax filing because it was "cheaper". Tried working with it for several days. Was tedious,vague and a pain. TOTAL FAIL! Abandoned it and was refused a refund to boot. Came back to TurboTax where I was done in a matter of hours. Will NEVER try another!!
What's great about it: Easy
What's not so great: Wish it was a tad cheaper and/or offered free state filing in Deluxe

Turbo Tax Delux, 2012

My uncle got me to switch and use Turbo Tax many years ago. I love how easy it is to use and how it reviews for errors. It makes a task I hated to do much easier. I would recommend this product to anyone. Great work, Turbo Tax! I thank you for helping me through this each year.
What's great about it: Love how easy it is to be guided through the whole process and I especially like the review.
What's not so great: None. I have used Turbo Tax for many years.

I know now that I don't have enough deductions to itemize, there should be a clear instruction to skip that and go directly to the standard deduction.
What's great about it: Good step by step process
What's not so great: One time the instructions were confusing (s corporations)

Price challenge

Would consider a lower price program next year. Was strapped for time this year, so picked Turbo tax because I used it in the past. Would be nice if you could just get an upgrade instead of buying entire program each year.
What's great about it: ease of use
What's not so great: Price is higher than Tax Act, which my friend recommended.

Mostly good work

My husband passed away last year and we had to report many stock sales. Importing the information worked great.
But, when I indicated that I had inherited his IRAs, TT insisted that nothing was taxable. I had to "uninherit" the IRAs to report the amounts taken for RMD and rolled over to my IRAs.

I do not like the removal from this year's tool, of the prior year's data for individual items for each item. I realize these are displayed in the review summation fror a category but only after the category is marked complete.
I cannot determine how to remove the state returns portion from my automatic distribution TurboTax. My state is Texas with no state income tax.
