It's been 10 years since I paid a tax preparer to prepare my taxes for me. TurboTax literally "dumb it down" for anyone to understand simple rules. Unless you're a multi-millionaire with countless deductions and tax loopholes, this program is the way to go.
What's great about it: The simplicity of doing it yourself
What's not so great: Hard to understand deducting mileage for a once-a-year weekend business trip.

Tax Refund

Easy to follow walk through.
Explain difference between retirement types401K, ROTH, IRA, etc. Which amounts are already entered on the W2 and which amounts need to entered separately for deductions.
Clarify the cost of the software. Does the cost of the state return software include the cost to file a state return? Does the cost of the federal return software include the cost to file a federal return? Is there a way to pay for these all at once or do I have to pay them separately.
Tax preparation expense deductions. I used turbo tax last year. I did not find the option to automatically import the cost from last years software although this option was advertised in the help.
What's great about it: Easy to follow steps
What's not so great: Retirement plan confusion, software cost

What's great about it: Convenient and very helpful!!
What's not so great: Payments at the end, but they are necessary so really no cons!!

Overall Turbo Tax is easy for beginners to use and you will want to use it over and over after the first time.
What's great about it: guides you step by step
What's not so great: a little difficult to locate a specific area
