Michigan State Form Error
on February 13, 2013
Posted by: Tomcat248th
There is an error in programming Michigan form 1040CR line 42 that could not be corrected with turbo tax unless you enter an override amount for line 42. Doing this prevents turbo tax from e-file of return. This is considered a deficiency with the turbo tax program.
What's not so great: Error in programming property tax credit

PRINT RETURN
on February 18, 2013

WHEN THE SOFT WARE ASKS ME TO PRINT THE RETURNS, I CLICK ON THAT AND I HAVE TO FIRST REVIEW THE RETURN, BUT THEN I STILL CAN'T PRINT MY RETURN WHY NOT?
What's not so great: I SHOULD BE ABLE TO PRINT MY RETURN WITHOUT LEAVING THE PROGRAM
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Major Error in State Tax Computation
on February 23, 2013
Posted by: gunny7
2012 Federal filing was fine, but the state tax (Maine) had an error that made me lose confidence in the only tax program I've ever used. I am retired military and Maine allows an income modification for military retirement pay. Previous years Turbo Tax automatically computed this correctly and I usually got a State refund. However, this year when I completed my taxes I "owed" the State of Maine what I deem a considerable payment. This immediately concerned me and I pulled my 2011 Maine State filed tax forms and did a line-by-line comparison and immediately saw the Schedule 1 differences. I returned to my 2012 Turbo Tax filing and switched to form input and manually overrode the process and added the Schedule 1 computations and the program computed the update and i went from a "Tax Due" status to a "Tax Refund" status for both Federal and State. I have never experience a mistake of this magnitude with Turbo Tax before and this has decreased my confidence in the accuracy of the product. I don't think I will be filing with Turbo Tax in 2013.
What's great about it: Easy to use workflow
What's not so great: 2012 Deluxe version had a major state tax error

Not as user friendly as last year
on February 27, 2013

Some requests for info were difficult to interpret. I had to wing it on a few figures. Hope I did it correctly. Review should have sent me back to the correct page to add/delete information. i was not always sure .
My circumstances were not that different in 2012
What's great about it: Calculations done for me
What's not so great: hard to find work already in put
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Continue to love TT
on March 22, 2013
Posted by: pchriste
I've been using TT for at least 16 years - back when it wasn't Windows. Makes filing easy. And since I use it every year all my data, name, DOB, bank routing, etc. is there so I don't have to reenter.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Like it all else I wouldn't use it

Great with one issue
on April 2, 2013

Great up until the end when it wouldn't let me file my state return because of a silly glitch. I eventually figured out how to correct it on my own but it took 3 hours of tinkering to do it. Annoying!
What's great about it: Loved the step by step instructions and help.
What's not so great: Had an issue filing my state return.

E-filing Pin Hassle
on May 6, 2013
Posted by: Unhappyefiler
Turbo tax is great, but my first time to e-file has been a disaster. Tried to file three times. On the third try, I was kept in a loop until a customer assistant stated signature e-file pin is different from the IRS e-file pin. All I needed to do was to make up a signature pin for Turbo Tax e-filing. This difference in pins is not clearly stated. The IRS stated to enter all zeros when you do not electronically file your taxes the previous year, but Turbo tax would not accept all zeros.
What's great about it: Turbo tax was easy to use and generated unthought of deductions
What's not so great: Difference in e-filing pin and signature filing pin.
