It was very easy to use and foolproof even for someone not tech or financially savy.
What's great about it: Quick, found deductions for us
What's not so great: Took a little while to update, maybe from high traffic

First self-filed return
on April 8, 2013

This was my first time filing my own taxes and it was a breeze. Turbo Tax made it very simple and easy to understand. I liked how it helped me maximize my donation deduction by more itemized details than the guides from the charity sites. State taxes were very quick after the federal taxes and it overall seemed very thorough. I got confused on the car registration part - it made it seem like I could make a deduction, but I really couldn't. I also was a little confused on the "long-term health insurance premium" verbiage, but later the program clarified that it was not my pre-tax payments through my paycheck. I also didn't like that I ended up paying extra to e-file (I thought that was the whole point??) as well as another fee. I didn't mind so much with the size of my return, but if I had owed money or had a very small return I would be pretty mad. Also, I work in the retirement/investment industry so I understood the differences between investments, IRA, and 401k contributions, but I felt like the public probably would need clarification that the investments/retirement accounts do NOT count 401(k) because it was already accounted for in the W2. Overall, though, I'm glad I am filing my own taxes for the first time now with Turbo Tax, and feel bad for my parents who had to file their first time through the mail!
What's great about it: Easy for first timers
What's not so great: Just a little confusing at some points, hidden fees
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Great product. I have used it for several years now and would recommend it to anyone. The transferring of data from prior years and the saving of digital copies make it super convenient.
What's great about it: Everything is right were you need it. My info from the prior year transfers
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Only One Frustration
on April 8, 2013
Posted by: Anonymous
I was frustrated that I couldn't change a number easily on the 1098-T Form when I realized I only needed to enter half the scholarship for 2012. I finally gave up and left the incorrect amount in the tax file, as it didn't really affect my taxes.
Otherwise, I liked the maneuverability to get wherever I wanted. I also like being able to select what I want to print, especially when I don't want everything all over again.

2012 Review
on April 8, 2013

The software made it easy to file my return and using the "explain this" links answered the few questions I did have. The charitable contributions section was especially nice and made it extremely easy to value the items I donated. They covered all the categories of the items I had, unlike other guides. This in itself made TurboTax worth the price for me. Importing the W2's was also great! The ability to save my work and return back to the exact spot I stopped was also very handy. All in all it was the fastest, easiest and least expensive tax filing I've ever done.
What's great about it: Easy to install, update and use
What's not so great: nothing of consequence

Turbo Tax does what it says!
on April 8, 2013

I have been a long term Turbo Tax user and have appreciated the improvements year over year. In twelve years, I have only had the IRS change my tax bill once and that was a keying error on my part. Even if you think you can't do your own taxes, you should try it!
What's great about it: Easy to prepare. Mostly intuitive input. Most importantly, handles complex tax issues accurately.
What's not so great: Only one issue with a K-1. Unusual circumstance.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
