My Taxes

Well, I am not sure how the other tax applications work but Turbo Tax was the first I believe. The application is very detailed and yet flexible to accommodate any tax situation. I had too try two different methods of reducing my tax liability using a traditional IRA deposit versus no deposit. And immediately it showed the difference in the amount of tax I owed or what the refund might be.
What's great about it: Accuracy, updates, form completion
What's not so great: Cost of the software
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

I've been using Turbo Tax for many years and will do it as long as it remains easy to use and accurate and fits my needs in terms of tax advice/help.
What's great about it: As always clear and easy
What's not so great: Sometimes too many adds to buy helps for reviews/support that I don't need

TurboTax Just Keeps Improving

I used to use a very effective and inexpensive tax program, whose name I can't remember; the producer of that program was bought out by, you guessed it...TurboTax. I was reluctant to migrate to the "big guy" of tax prep software, but tried it and liked it. I've now used TurboTax for more than ten years, far more.
There are enough TurboTax software variations to suit the most basic tax prep needs, as well as the most complex and complicated ones, all reasonably priced.
From year to year, each time I prepare my return, it becomes easier each time. The basic information is imported from the prior year, saving much typing time and effort, and the document-import feature, which I'm sure will continue to improve, also saves much time in entering data.
Since each step of the process is expertly guided by the software, with the option of going back to amend and correct, there's no stress, just have either your tax documents handy and/or the login information to your financial institutions.
It's that good and that easy. This review is taking nearly as much time to write as the preparation of my tax returns using TurboTax...no, this is not a paid endorsement.
What's great about it: Guided tax return, no need to pick specific forms or categories of income, credits, etc.
What's not so great: Document import from financial institutions still needs work

I used it for the first time last year. Like almost anything, it was a little scary doing it for the first time. It was very easy. This year, I had to calculate moving expenses and a state income tax in a state in which I no longer reside. It's a great program and I've told my high school students it's worth the investment.
What's great about it: Very Easy to Use

Accurate on time filing

I like the methodical way that TurboTax asks questions to fill in my tax forms. TurboTax improves from year to year. It is great to be able to retrieve data from the previous year eliminating the need to reenter some information. Importing data from bank accounts is another great feature. A feature I particularly like is being able to look directly at the forms to see how they are being filled. Flags to be able to easily return to a certain point is another favorite. I have used this product for many years. Now I e-file all the time. It eliminated my midnight trips to the Post Office on the 15th.
What's great about it: importing data, question approach, accuracy, flags, form view
What's not so great: Seems to scroll through the same pages multiple times.
