I felt this year the software was not as easy to use... in the past it was very user friendly and not confusing... not so this year. Also, I am being audited for 2010 tax year where I used turbo tax and I thought bought the audit defense like I always do but I am not finding that to be the case... feeling a little disenchanted with turbo tax right now.

ease of doing taxes with Turbo Tax

Ihave been using turbo tax for the last 6 years and would sse anything else. The instructions are very clear. The step by step instructions make it hard to make an error on the return
What's great about it: Shows Errors that are made, and the transmitting tax returns.
What's not so great: None

cheaper than paying someone to do it for me

Its really easier to do my taxes with turbo tax than the other leading tax software that I tried and returned to the store. Turbo tax does walk you through any questions you have and makes it understandable, so I dont have to wonder where the figures on my forms came from. I have been using Turbo tax for about 7 years now, and have never had a problem.
What's great about it: inexpensive way to file my returns
What's not so great: little less explanitory than last year

Serious Issue

The program should be sophisticated enough to calculate whether itemized or standard deduction reduces taxes the most. It ignored the AMT when telling me to itemize which was just plain wrong.
The program also failed to calculate line 3d correctly on Form 1116.
Having used TurboTax in Canada for many years, I was disappointed with the US version.
What's great about it: Walked me through my return effectively
What's not so great: Srongly urged me to itemize deductions when that would have cost me several hundred dollars

Took a while

In a few cases Turbo Tax puts in a figure on a form but it is not always easy to determine where it came from. Also, there are cases where "tax free" interest/dividends are earned in different states and they are all not taxable in your state. It is a little difficult to determine how to enter that data easily. In similar cases there may be interest/dividends earned that are only partially attributable to federal bonds and not taxable on state returns. Again there should be an easy way to document this.
What's great about it: Easy to use and follow for the most part.
What's not so great: Would like to see more of where some of the calculations are done.

Turbo Tax is great.

I trust my income tax preparation only to Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: Easy to use even for a small business owner like me.
What's not so great: None
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

More info needed on conversions. Can I convert in April 2013 & take it off of 2012 taxes? I could have converted $8,000.00 this year and paid no extra taxes..
