Peace of Mind

I've tried quite a number of tax software programs. TurboTax is, by far, the easiest to use. The step- by step questions insure that I cover all pertinent sections but you can easily switch back and forth to review or see and print forms. All of my info from last year is transferred seamlessly and presented for use or comparison to this year's forms. My brokerage data is automatically downloaded and entered which saves a lot of time...and guarantees against calculation errors. It's the greatest!!
What's great about it: retrieves & enters all my brokerage data
What's not so great: I honestly don't have any

Finally got it done

You've made doing your taxes very simple. but you still have to organize your papers and make sure you know where what goes. I somehow put a dividend into the interest section and they kept asking me for something and I had no idea what it wanted. I finally figured out that I had put in the wrong section. Once I changed it over I had no problem.
What's great about it: really simple to do
What's not so great: it detect my mistakes.

Easier to file

I enjoyed the experience and the ease of filing. I was a little concerned about the cost, especially the extra charge for an additional state return, and the cost to e-file in MD. Is that a State of Maryland charge or a TurboTax charge? It wasn't clear.
What's great about it: Almost paperless
What's not so great: Costs
Pros: I moved, My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Tax returns included wages, SSI, disability pension income, third party sick pay, and multistate filings. Lots of places to mess up, but TurboTax handled this very smartly. Easy to use, and the explanations and additional info were very helpful. Would recommend to any tax filer especially those with returns to be filed with more than one state.

I am 79-years old and have filled out tax forms for over 60 years. As society became more complex, so did the tax forms. Thank s to technologists, our data and communications systems kept pace with the increased complexities. It is evident in the 2012 tax-season that the Intuit/Turbotax creators have recognized the psychologically positive and negative effects of required mechanistic data-reporting. The resulting humanization of these processes is the most encouraging development I have noticed in recent years. Go Turbotax! You are on a roll!
What's great about it: Fed/Sta E-submitted. Anticipates my reactions with sympathy.
What's not so great: Unclear explanation of colorcodes in worksheets.

Taxes Made Simple

Been using Turbo Tax for nearly a decade. I've never submitted a review till now. I do have a background in accounting, so preparing taxes isn't too bad. Still recommended for those with nominal understanding of US tax system and laws.
What's great about it: Answering the step-by-step process makes it easy
What's not so great: Having to drill through more than 4 forms to modify a figure manually
