I always used a tax service and was hesitant to use a system like Turbotax. I was surprised to find how easy it was to use and how it walked me through each step. After you complete the forms, the system lets you e-file and print out all your completed forms. I would use Turbotax again. I plan on it being even easier next year.
What's great about it: Overall, easy to use for first-time user. The system walks you through each question and catches errors
What's not so great: Difficult to get back to edit deductions

Unclear or confusing explanations

there were many contradictory explanations or instructions; I've used TT for many years, but this one was most stressful. For instance, my info was very similar to last year's, but when both years were compared, there were incongruities.
What's not so great: every time I clicked for "help" or Turbo Tax user community, I got a blank screen. No help what so ever.

Overall solid, with a major roadblock

I've been using turbotax every year for over ten years, and each year seems to be a little less polished. Overall it does make the process easier, however I ran into a state issue that I simply couldn't figure out. Turbotax told me I needed to enter a value from some worksheet that I couldn't find. Many people reported the same problem, yet no resolution from the intuit site. Eventually just entered a 0 to get through it. I have no idea if that's right, but there were no other options.
What's great about it: Simplifies the tax filing process tremendously
What's not so great: When there's a problem.. you really get stuck
Pros: I had a baby, My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

My 2012 1040 with TurboTax

TurboTax is a product that anyone using itemized deductions or having any sort of complications should use. Even if the return is simple and easy the convenience of e-filing is really nice and hassle free.
Some of my professional friends (CPA's helping clients with their 1040's# use TurboTax and are just as pleased with it as I am.
It is and has been a really great product but I seem to notice that each year there are improvements to make it even better.
One really great feature of TurboTax is the ability of the software to go the previous year's return and gather so much of the needed information. This feature not only saves time but insures that no new errors or omissions are introduced by the user in typing in information that is the very same as the previous year.
While I am an accountant #not one that specializes in tax preparation and filing) I assure you that were it not for TurboTax I would certainly be calling on my friends to do my forms for me.
What's great about it: Effort reduction; asks all the needed questions to make sure everything is included, decreases errors/omissions

Turbo Tax is a great product. I have been using it for about a decade. It is reliable, easy to use and will get you the best refund. . I don’t see myself using anything else.
